In general - would you say being east of metro Phoenix - like Chandler, Gilbert etc. ok for employment - are there many companies there? Or, do most have to go to Phoenix or Glendale - thanks

Your best bet is to find a job and then look for areas around that. MANY people find a home first and then find a job on the other end of town or in a city way too far away! That's one reason why it's such a car city; everyone is driving across for miles to get to work and back.
