Prescott or Bisbee for long weekend trip?
We're looking to take a trip over a long weekend. We're thinking of Prescott or Bisbee. Since we've never been to either, which area has more to do?

Id probably say Prescott as far as things to do but I would prefer to go to Bisbee personally because I love the tiny narrow streets and the stairs that go every where but there isnt really much to do besides explore.

Nothing against the o.p. but why isn't this Thread in the Arizona Forum? It's not a Phx. topic!!!!!!
Where are the Moderators around here? They used to do a better job in cleaning house and moving these Threads to the appropriate sections.

I have never been to Bisbee but reading about it online makes me pretty excited to check it out.
Seems like a pretty long trip but looks like you can also pass through Tombstone on the way as well...definitely a 2 day trip though.
"Today, the original city of Bisbee is known as "Old Bisbee," and is home to a thriving downtown cultural scene. Old Bisbee is also noted for its architecture, including its Victorian style houses and elegant Art Deco courthouse. Because its plan was laid out before the automobile, Old Bisbee has an almost European feel. The town's hilly terrain is exemplified by the old three-story high school: each floor has a ground-level entrance."

We just got back from going to both places. Each has their charm. This was the second time for Bisbee and we stayed at the Letson Loft B and B. Not cheap, but very nice. There are several art galleries and antique shops there. It is fun to explore. Prescott is a bigger place but lots of stuff to do there as well. We went to the Museum and all the out buildings there. I have considering retiring in one of those places. I like the feel and the weather at both.

Bisbee is an interesting town. Don't forget to stop in Tombstone on the way. There's a lot of history and interest in Cochise County, and an internet search or back issues of Arizona Highway's magazine will give you some direction.
However, Prescott will be a shorter drive, and, overall, there's probably more to do and will be a cooler climate.

Prescott itself may not be noticeably cooler than Bisbee this time of year, but it's proximity to Flagstaff makes it a better choice to escape heat imo. I'd take the back way from Prescott thru Jerome, down to Cottonwood, over to Sedona and up Oak Creek Canyon for a beautiful drive. The alternative is Chino valley to the interstate and up thru Williams...another nice drive once you get to the interstate and head east, but not as scenic. Besides, you can detour from Flag to Williams, not a long drive at all.
Bisbee this time of year is nice, but it's gonna be in the high 80's, low 90's at the least. I'd visit there after October 1, colors will be changing, brisk mornings, take a sweater. Tombstone is a must see, but in the 90's currently, not alot of shade.

Instead of ranting on a post, why not send a DM to one of the moderators (I think there's only two) and discuss it with them? They do have lives, perhaps they missed something, or consider this. It's more an AZ topic than a Phx one, but it would have the most interest for people IN Phoenix in terms of taking a long weekend FROM here in the summer.

Thanks for your understanding. I thought my thread was harmless enough to post in this forum and simply find out where people in Phoenix go for weekend trips. I've only been living here since March and still gathering as much information as possible.
Just want to say thanks to those who offered their ideas regarding both cities. Both seem to have their own unique appeal. Leaning a little more towards Prescott at the moment. Closer to us and not far from Jerome, another town we've been wanting to check out. We really love Tombstone (been there once before) and are thinking of going back sometime in the fall.

Another alternate route, just for kicks and grins, is to take Cherry road across from the Dewey(lower Prescott valley)area to the interstate. Not a big deal, but better than the interstate.
And, there is a road from lower Cottonwood that winds over the mountains into Prescott Valley, don't recall the name, you'll see signs tho. It's dirt, windy, some dropoffs, but has some great views and winds down into a little wide spot in the road community hidden away in giant trees, not like you'd think to find in Arizona. Check your maps, details escape me. Be sure to slow down when approaching Jerome, lots of places to pull over, pics, and of course bozos cutting blind corners to watch for. Have fun.
