Question Moving to Phoenix

I am considering a move to the Phoenix area and wanted to know from people that live there; how is life in Phoenix. Currently I live in East TN and the weather alone sucks.

Default easy Livin'

It is easy livin' here...

Most people are laid back but you have to get accustomed to the seasonal "fair weather" folks that come here between October and May!

No biggie -

There's so much information here on the forums. Read, read, read, use the search for more specific info. You will find those who hate it here and those who love it here (just like you would on any other city's forum) and those like myself who recognize its flaws but, on balance, are very happy here. Best of luck to you!

Living in Phoenix is good. If you like Mexican food, there's so many great places to eat. The summers are very hot. But it is a "dry heat." It does not rain very much here. Almost every day is sunny with not many clouds. So if you like the sun, this is the best place to live. A lot of people that live here head "up North" (it takes a couple hours) and go camping or spend the day in cooler weather (pine trees). I would say the culture is more laid back, you don't get many people honking horns or cutting you off (of course it occasionally happens). It's mostly a conservative state.

I agree with almost everything except the conservative state label. Arizona is mostly a libertarian state and most of the state, local, and federally elected officials are democratic and such. The state is more moderate than conservative. But no, doesn't rain too much in the desert regions...rains up to two, three or four times as much in the pine forests, mountains, rim country, etc.

One thing you may miss about Eastern TN in time is how green it is there. There are trees and grass here, but overall, it can seem very brown to someone from the East. The mountains are beautiful in their own way, but nothing like the mountains that you are used to. This may not be a big deal to you at all, and to some it is a total deal breaker. I have read both perspectives on this forum.

weather from mid-October to June1 will be the most beautiful weather you've ever experienced; it was for us, being from Nebraska.

Nights get **cold**, (40's, which we really don't consider cold) but during the day, it usually gets to the mid-70's, under the bluest skies you've ever seen, not a cloud in sight. Oh yeah, one last thing, that makes the weather EVEN BETTER, there is NO wind!!!! I was used to 20-40 mph wind almost daily back in the plains, that simply doesn't happen here. Winds are almost non-existent.

Yep, less green in a desert very astute observation. Also, the mountains here are old growth pine forests, alpine meadows and aspen growth. I think anyone from anywhere, even back east, would find them just as striking or green. Check out the aspen "glow" in the pine regions especially on the San Francisco peaks in Flagstaff during the fall foliage; some of the most beautiful fall scenes anywhere in the world. Here are some pics from around Arizona and some scenes you can look forward to seeing especially if you drive through Arizona from TN on your way to Phoenix:
