My response is the same as before:

As far as being an interracial couple, I don't think you'll have any problems. Before I retired, I was accused of being a racist several times. The line was always, "you only stopped me because I'm black." I filed that with the other lines I heard, such as: 'you only stopped me because I have out of state plates', 'you only stopped me because my car is red', you only stopped me because I'm driving a BMW', etc. etc. Thank God I never stopped a black driving a red BMW with California plates! I live in a small neighborhood in east Mesa. There's a black family a few blocks away, my next door neighbor is Filipino, across the street is Hispanic and next door to them is Vietnamese. You are more than welcome in my neighborhood, and if you're interested in a 1717 sq. ft. house is east Mesa, there are 2 or 3 for sale on my block and I'd be happy to get the info for you.
The only thing that has changed are the houses I mentioned. Two have sold, one for $240k, the other for <$250k. The inter-racial thing is still pretty much a non-issue. Hopefully you'll get better responses this time around. Maybe if the moderator moves this to the Phoenix forum for you, it will help. It's pretty pathetic that only two people responded to you last time you asked for help.

I live in the Mesa area with my wife and 12 year old son and We think it's great (if you live out of town) We are at Power Rd. & University Dr. I'm about 6 miles from Banner Hospital and about 15 miles from Mesa Luthern. Lots of GP's around with a lot of Eargent Care too. My kids go to Red Mtn High School & Freemont Jr. High ( the best in the school dist.) We have been here for 10 years and love it. The couple down the street is white(her) -Black (him) He's a ploice officer. Nice couple!!! We are thinking about moveing to be close to my family (mom's not doing well) and thinking about renting out our house. You can rent and if you like the area then you should buy. If not, move and try out a diffrent area. I don't think we have seen anyone who did not like the area. But, not everyone is the same. If your instrested, email me for more details.. Have a great day

Red Mountain is a good school but Freemont? During the mid Eighties and Nineties it was considered a prep school for the FFA: Future Felons of Arizona. Good to hear it's changed during the last ten years.

There's a new hospital about to open on Southern Avenue just east of Crismon Road also. Banner Baywood is about the same distance from us as it is from Woodzman. By the way mrsmshaw70, there is still one of those 1717 sq. ft. houses I mentioned for sale (by owner). Not sure what they are asking for it now, but they started way too high, over $260 if I remember correctly. It should sell for $240k - $245k. KB home, great floorplan, no two stories behind or on either side. There's a huge new shopping plaza a mile south anchored by a Wal-Mart Super store and the plans have been approved for Super Target 1/2 mile away. Most importantly, there's a Barro's Pizza within walking distance.

Good luck!

Move to Gilbert, there's plenty of new hospitals there. I love that new emergency hospital on Ray and Power. Look for a nice home around there. Your husband sells cars? Superstition Springs has tons of car lots. Good schools lower crime than most areas.

Regarding inter-racial couples, I found that there were far less tensions around the issue in Arizona than in Southern California where I was raised. Some may not agree with me but from my personal perspective most are pretty laid back about it. I worked with whites (like myself), Blacks, Hispanics, and many others from different cultural backgrounds and I never had any problems, nor did I witness any between others. We liked each other, had a great time working together and skin color never played a part in it.

No matter where you go you will come across those who look down their noses, shake their heads and titter, but they are in the minority. Does their opinion really matter if they are too ignorant to see beyond the color of someone's skin?

I think you'll have no problem finding work in nursing. Besides the hospitals there are also many care home facilities that are looking for highly qualified nurses, as well as private patients who want care at home.

Try Chandler - - the schools are great and the community is mixed - I believe that Queen Creek just south of there even has an older Afro-American community - - there is also a newer hospital in the area - -
