Rates are very low and the entire cost of taxes in Arizona is lower than most of the nation. In New Mexico, a sparsely populated, desolate state doesn't need to tax as much. I'm not being negative but it really is a sparsely populated state with very desolate and rural tracts of land that aren't very pretty...There are a few exceptions but they are FEW. Most people move to Arizona because of the lower cost of living and low tax burden.

I grew up in Chandler (which I liked living in a lot... but it is fairly developed, so I don't know how much your parents would like it... maybe the southern parts of it and Gilbert would be acceptable to them)... don't live in AZ anymore but am moving back soon hopefully. I would recommend Fountain Hills. It's less densely populated than a lot of Phoenix.

Scottsdale is very nice, but it is expensive, and you listed a price range earlier which is probably too low for a nice house in Scottsdale.

Queen Creek is probably too far from the main city for someone your age. I know it'd be too far out for me. Small towns are really frustrating and boring in my opinion. The weather is not much cooler than it is in most of Phoenix. I just checked and it is only like one degree different from the temperatures in Chandler for the next week.

I don't know as much about western Phoenix but Sun City, Sun City West, and Surprise have a lot of retirees and I think you and your parents would probably like it there too.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah Queen Creek is pretty far out there. Is there a lot to do near Fountain Hills?

Fountain Hills appears very nice. Not to many homes under $300,000 though. Well not many over 2700 square ft.
