What are your thoughts on the crime in Peoria and what sections would be considered unsafe- as well as Surprise, if any. I know they both have a lot to offer, but was just wondering about types of crime, if rare, etc. Thanks

You need to visit the areas yourself. There are good neighborhoods and bad ones but it’s all in how you view the area. Crime is no better no worse then most metro communities, and for that matter anywhere else in the country. If you’re new to an area you’re always cautious about your surroundings and each person has a different point of view and tolerance. A friend of my moved to Surprise and finds that it is very safe, but he lives in a new gated community which is different then living in the original old town Surprise area.

There are no real crime problems in Peoria or Surprise...unless you spent your whole life living in a small town...you should find those areas to be pretty safe.

Peoria has some very safe and nice spots, but also has some not so great spots. If you come visit, it's very easy to see which neighborhoods are good and which areas are bad when you drive around.
Surprise wasn't included in the last crime stats for AZ big cities because the population wasn't correct on the reports, but we have less crime than every big city included on the report. |

Areas around 99 ave and Peoria are rough in spots I also don't care for 67th ave west to 99th ave off or Peoria ave. |

We moved from a small community in Washington state to Surprise about three years ago. I've noticed very little crime, but I've also noticed a very active police presence around town which probably is why there's little crime.

We looked at both south Peoria and north Peoria. South is sprinkled with some older developments as well as horse properties. Some neighborhoods seemed a little dicey in the southern parts. Not crime ridden like LA or parts of Sacramento, just older and gummier. We like north Peoria, it is newer and the shopping is getting better all the time. You really should look first, your perspective on what is crime ridden might be different than ours.

If you call both of the Police Departments and ask to speak to a Crime Analyst - they will email you the stats and with what address each crime happened. They will take out all of the guesswork for you. Use the PD - they are not just there to give you a speeding ticket.
