Where should I shop for a refrigerator (pref. East Valley)?
First time buying a major appliance. I'm going to take one more shot at getting a smart repair guy, but I think I'm probably going to need a new one. Any places you recommend, my main interest being low price?

Same as anywhere else in the valley. you can go to Sears and get one of their cards. Usually you get 10% off, and can defer your payments for a year (check sears.com to see if that is what they are offering).
There's also Spencers. I think they have a "scratch and dent" warehouse location in Mesa where you can get a good deal. For a fridge it shouldn't matter since 3/4 of it is hidden anyway.
AZ Wholesale Supply Co. and Westar Appliances are wholesale appliance warehouses that supply home builders. They sometimes have scratch and dents for cheap, and sometimes Spencers comes in and buys all of them.

Costco
Home Depot
Lowes
Spencers
Home TV and Appliances
You'll get it quicker with Spencers and Home TV and Appliances and better service. Prices can also be lower on sales.

Also, if you can wait it out. There are rumors of a "cash for clunker refrigerators" program possibly coming out soon! Seriously.

If you have a tight budget shop on craigslist. There are lots of newer refrigerators for sale there.

We just purchased all 4 new kitchen appliances from Home TV and Appliance. I highly recommend them!! We got a great deal and delivery or pick up is super easy. The salesperson we worked with knew WAY MORE about the products than any of the people we talked to at the national chains.

You can get a 10 percent off coupon at the post office, look in the movers change of address package.
It is for Lowes, and is good on purchases up to $2500.
I bought all my appliances through Lowes, and saved a few hundred bucks with that one coupon.
Actually grab a couple, and save the coupon for next time..

I would take a trip to the Westside to save more money. I doubt you will find anyone who will beat the prices at Associated Appliance Sales. FYI, they don't have sales. It's more like they have a sale everyday. When I took the Assoc. Appl. Sales quote to Spencer's. The salesperson said just said that they couldn't match the price on the refrigerator, even though they were having a special on GE Appliances.

If buying new, check out the Maytag store in Mesa. The prices are fair but their warranty is unmatched in coverage, cost and response.
I went through 2 other fridges which never died completely, but did have a host of problems. One had the in-door ice and water dispenser - and that kept breaking. Another just had the ice maker in the freezer, but the water line kept splitting and flooding the kitchen. These never seemed to be covered and cost me extra.
With Maytag, the warranty was something like $69 for several years - and this covered just about anything, including emergency visits. At the Sears outlet, a similar warranty was several hundred dollars... a 30% or more addition to the cost.
I tend to avoid buying store warranties as they tend to be a ripoff. But when you mix water, electricity and freezing temps, something is bound to go wrong. The fridges here also have to work a lot harder to keep a normal temp due to our heat. Plus it's tought to put a fridge in the back of a car and take it somewhere to get fixed based on deals... especially if it's full of thawing food!
Bottom line: compare prices, but also examine how they stand behind their products.
