A couple of years ago, the Republic sports section started referring to Horizon High School (56th St/Greenway) as "Phoenix Horizon" rather than the previous "Scottsdale Horizon". They get a lot of angry letters about it but they are correct.

"even if we can't afford 85253 or 85255, by God I want a Scottsdale MAILING address, at the least. Guess we'll have to settle for 85254, dammit"

No, the southern boundary of 85331 is Jomax, Tatum Ranch is at least partially below that.

EDIT: I did see a real estate site though that said that Tatum Ranch is in the city of Phoenix but the mailing addresses are Cave Creek. That's not consistent with the ZIP code map, though, so I'm not sure what the real deal is.

Some of the school district boundaries are a bit confusing. Arcadia high school is well within Phoenix but is part of the Scottsdale school district, just as some areas that are thought of as Scottsdale are technically Phoenix. Ultimately what matters is the school itself, but it's not like there's some Berlin wall dividing neighborhoods... a really nice part of Phoenix is generally bordered by a really nice part of Scottsdale or other adjacent city. 9 out of 10 people wouldn't know where one ends and the other begins.

And some parts of Phoenix are nicer than some parts of Scottsdale. I live in 85054 (NE Phoenix up by Kierland and Desert Ridge, just south of Grayhawk, just north of Kierland, just east of Desert Ridge, just west of Airpark and the TPC course lol!). You really can't tell where one begins and the other ends. This whole area of town is very very nice, clean and convenient to just about anything you could want. But I strongly suspect that you won't be able to touch anything other than a condo or maybe if you are lucky an older small home in marginal condition or a teardown in this whole area regardless of zip code or which city it "technically" is or isn't for $260K.

I really dont care what my mailing address says. I just want to live in a great suburban area with easy access to shopping, parks, community events, youth soccer program. My husband will be traveling a lot so I would love to make freinds with the neighbors hopefully other stay at home moms. I plan to be involved with the school. I would like a school district with full day kindergarten (top priority). I hear of people saying its hard to make friends in "snobsville" well Im coming from Chicago and its hard to believe people are any rudder than here!! Advice for other towns is appriciated. Need to have good commute to office in scottsdale and Phenoix airport. I have never been to arizona but i know there is a lot of area to cover so i am trying to narrow them down before i fly in for a 3 day trip. Can anyone refer me to a good real estate agent and banker? Thanks

I live in Tatum Ranch. Our zip code is 85331, but we have a Cave Creek address...our utilities are through the city of Phoenix though (thank goodness, I hear water bills in the town of C.C are ridiculously high).

It's ok over here. We had a lot of homes for sale for awhile in my area, but I think most are rented out now. LOTS of renters in my section...we rent, but we are good renters who treat the house like it's ours..unfortunately not all renters here do. I feel like it takes forever to get anywhere around here...7 miles to the 101 down Cave Creek Rd. and then 6 miles down Tatum to Desert Ridge. When we first moved here it seemed like a good idea to be away from the evils of the city..lol, but now I just feel terribly incovenienced most of the time!

I highly recommend McCormick Ranch area. There are certainly some pricey homes in that area, but it's somewhat of an older (and greener) part compared to many of the cookie cutter subdivisions in the far flung suburbs. Most of the neighborhoods I've seen in McCormick Ranch contain custom built homes. Also, lots of parks, lakes, and more upscale shopping can be found there. With the severe downturn in real estate, there might actually be something there (as well as in other parts of Scottsdale) within your price range.

Keep in mind that Scottsdale is not all luxury hotels, Porsches, snobs, and boob jobs (as some people would claim). For being a suburb of Phoenix, it actually looks & feels like a completely separate city with its own culture. A lot of this can be attributed to the fact that it covers a long stretch of the eastern metro area ... so you really have a lot to choose from in terms of neighborhoods and price ranges.

I too recommend McCormick Ranch area, there are pricey homes but the Hayden greenbelt wash is beautiful to walk through. I'm not sure if you can find for 260k but defintely 350k ish.

Here is a house I just found $225,000 Townhome in Downtown Scottsdaleish. Looks beautiful though! 1,600 sq ft.
