Default does SRP rip people off?

Last month we had the AC set to 76 all month... Bill comes in at $129.50... Probably sounds cheap to you, but it's pretty high for us considering we live in an 800 SQ. FT Apt...

Anyways, we saw that bill, and bumped up the AC to 82.. It was borderline uncomfortable all month long in here. I couldn't wait to see the SRP bill to see if our sacrifices were worth it.. Our bill finally came and the price was $129.50 again....

What the heck is going on here? Our 2 bills prior to these said bills were $79, and $90....

I just don't get how our bill didn't go down a nickel when our AC was on much less, and the nights have been A LOT cooler than last month...

SRP is out of control. The bills get higher every month and they are about to increase their rates another 8.8%.
We have newer 1500 sq ft home and the bill has been about $185 a month for the past three months with thermostat set at 76, tried it at 78 and 82, no difference.
Welcome to Arizona.

That doesn't sound right, Bench Warmer. You should probably contact them and complain.

Compare the kilowatt hours used, and the price per hour. How do those compare? Perhaps they just misread your meter.

I'm paying about 87 a month to SRP with 2100 sq ft at 85 24/7. I don't think they are ripoff artists at all, but there may be a mistake. (A friend's current bill from APS was a THOUSAND kilowatt hours more than the previous month had been, with NO real changes in use. They are checking for a misread on the meter).

The 8.8 percent increase has been quashed by the Board.

Look and see if your bill was based on an actual meter read. Sometimes they are not, and it will say if it was.

Rate increase only delayed, not quashed.

SRP rate hike could be delayed until May - Phoenix Business Journal:

I should qualify that. I have been home very little this summer, so use beyond AC and the refrigerator and a few other plug ins and lamps has been minimal. I have gotten by previously, though, on a managed pay of about 110 a month for a few years now, when I was home a normal amount of time. The secret? Ceiling fans, and tile floors. I'm burning all the credit I built up on that before summer, and will go back on the managed pay next month.

Ah I see. But $110 is still amazing. We do run ceiling fans in all rooms but we need to get rid of the carpet and lay tile which we plan to do later this year.

You will find the tile really helpful. It's a little chilly on the feet in the winter for the same reason it feels good in the summer, but I just wear shoes inside more in the winter.
