I just moved out here from Canton, MI, NOT OHIO, I agree with the above posts. I was in a similar situation as you, a single last 20's, Im 29, moving from MI to AZ. I will say look for a job before you make a decision does on an apt. you do not want a 40 min drive on a good day that can be 90 the next with traffic. East valley seems the better side of the tracks. It all really depends what you are looking in for. I found one of the best places to look for an apartment was craigslist.

I'm 27 years old and plan on moving by myself. I'd like to find an area with a nice concentration of people my age, although I'd prefer to steer clear of the college areas.

Any ideas would be highly appreciated! Thanks!
I moved from MI to AZ in 2005. TAKE EXTREME CAUTION B4 MOVING TO ARIZONA. Being in the desert SW doesnt mean things are any better here. There are no jobs to be found here. None! I became unemployed months ago and cant find work (besides anything that pays more than $8 an hour) and have 2 college degrees! Most jobs in Arizona are low-paying service jobs that dont offer much of a paycheck or a future. Walmart is by far the state's largest employer (the next 5 largest are all retail). And the state's largest industries (tourism/hospitality, construction and retail) have shed thousanads upon thousands upon thousands of jobs. I have 2 college degrees and cant find a job here that pays more than $15 and hour! Also, moving long distance without a job is not a good idea. You need to find work first B4 moving, especially in this economy. I hnonestly think you should move elsewhere. How about Chicago or the Washington DC area? Tons of jobs in those cities? I'm just trying to warn you. Do you know how many people come here from the Midwest and think they will 'make it big'? Many. But most give up and go home. I'm just trying to warn you.......

AZ is like anywhere else including MI, your life is what YOU make it. The traditional way of finding jobs are out the door. It's not what you know, rather WHO you know. I have been networking like crazy since I been here and feel the opportunities are endless
