Default Anyone from MI here? I need advice!

Hello,

I've finally made up my mind to leave Michigan and find a job in Phoenix. I live in Novi, MI, and am wondering if anyone who has lived in the Detroit area could point me to a similar sort of city in the Phoenix area.

I'm 27 years old and plan on moving by myself. I'd like to find an area with a nice concentration of people my age, although I'd prefer to steer clear of the college areas.

Any ideas would be highly appreciated! Thanks!

Default Try uptown/downtown PHX

Try uptown or downtown Phoenix...

You sound single and the central part of Phoenix is experiencing a resurgance...

Thanks so much, and good call...I am single!

If living in downtown Phoenix what is the parking situation like? I work in outside sales here in Detroit and my car is essential. Is there typically parking onsite for residents or will I have to pay monthly for a space to park my car?

I lived near Detroit for some time.
Car is essential here in Phoenix.
I live in east valley, and will suggest you the same, south Tempe, Chandler are nice suburbs.
Also Scottsdale, Paradise valley can b considered.

Thank you for the feedback!

I've really been thinking about Chandler. I'm renting an apartment here, and some I looked at in Chandler seem really nice. Any thoughts on the Ocotillo area? I've talked to a few apartment complexes there and they seem to be in my price range. I'm just hoping they're in a safe area that is fairly quiet.

Again, thanks for the help!

I'm from Ann Arbor/Pittsfield TWP area, and I've lived in North PHoenix and West Phoenix, but ultimately settled on Uptown/Downtown/Central phoenix area Central and Osborn. Its great for singles w/ no kids.
Although I do have two boys they live in MI and spend summers with me. There of course wasn't much for them to do living in highrise smack dab in the city. But we made the best of it and became regulars at the city area skate parks, took many trips out of state. Did alot of night time dowtown bike riding wich is really fun.
I would highly suggest moving here and renting out a room from someone till you get a feel for the area and know where you'll be working

I remember you asking about activities for kids earlier this year. Glad to hear it worked out for you. How well did the boys handle the heat?

They didn't mind the heat no where near as much as I did. We packed a cooler bag w/ Ice and water everywhere we went. Usually left the house after sunset. I'll admit they did spend a good portion of their summers indoors, but I tried to make it as fun as I could. I think the highlite of our summer was our camping trip up north near Campe Verde. We had a really good time "roughing" it.

I'm from Brighton, MI.......just down the road from Novi.

If I was single, I'd live around the Camelback & 32nd street area.

Trudawg and Yaz, thanks!

It's been a while since i was last in Phoenix. I'm going to fly out early next month and spend a few days just looking at different areas to see what I like, and also pop in some of the companies that I sent my resume to. I really appreciate all the feedback and suggestions, thanks so much!
