Every where I travel - I have to visit the city Aquarium. How come Phoenix doesn't have one?
How many of you would want to have one here and would you visit it?

They dont have one because it would boil and bubble like a cauldron in summer, killing all of its non-human inhabitants. LOL j/k

It would be a good idea, I wonder why they havent done one yet. Downtown Phoenix desperately needs something like this to attract folks downtown and spark new life there. No amount of condos/etc will attract people for leisure like a aquarium or a planetarium would.

I would love to see Phoenix - have an aquarium - what a great place to take the children on school trips - where else can the locals go to see something unique and fun - we have a zoo - why not an aquarium....

While I wouldn't mind an aquarium, the concept seems a little out of place in the desert. Most of the best aquariums (Baltimore, San Diego, Monterrey, Boston, etc.) are in coastal cities and make some attempt to educate visitors about the aquatic life native to the region. I'm more enthusiastic about attractions like the Desert Botanical Garden, which encourages visitors to learn about the life native to the Sonoran Desert. I'm not saying I'd be opposed to an aquarium, but I can certainly understand why we don't have one.

That's why I think it would be neat and unique - how many children or people really do get to see the world of ocean life?

Take the kids to Cabellas (or Bass Pro on the east side).

There's an aquarium in Tulsa. That is nowhere near the ocean so maybe it is not such a crazy idea.

Actually, there's a non-prof group raising money right now to build one. I'd give you their name, but I can't for the life of me remember it.

Although the aquariums in San Diego and Monterey are awesome, what about my most favorite aquarium...Shedd Aquarium?? It's in Chicago, nowhere near the ocean! I've also been to the big aquarium in Camden, New Jersey (of all places!), which isn't near the coast.

I think an aquarium for ANY big city is a good idea. They're almost always popular...especially with children. A new aquarium, planetarium and "discovery center" downtown would be great additions to Phoenix, for both residents and visitors! I'm with everyone else...who should we call?

Chicago is on the shore of Lake Michigan, and Camden is along the Delaware River, so both are near continuously flowing bodies of water. Anyway, that's a technicality. As some have pointed out, the absence of a natural body of water in some ways makes an aquarium even more likely to be a crowd pleaser.
