Is this area worth moving to or should you stay away. Cheap houses over there, but I'm worried about crime. I'm looking at a house behind by Apollo HS.

and that's why they're cheap. As any area of Phoenix metro, good pockets, bad pockets. Depends upon the risk you are willing to live with. I lived on the west side in a "bad" area for years, only problem was a stolen battery 2 weeks before we moved. Others.......not so lucky.

Cheap prices doesnt always mean that these places are hard to rent or in slum areas. Thereare so many available properties at this time because of the economy as it is.
I would imagine crime is among all areas. IMO, the areas that have less crime are those having gated communities in exquisite neighborhoods. I would look around and see if signs of vandalized properties, gang-like graffiti markings and even check the police dept to see what kind of crime happens in the area or adjacent.
I get people stopping to talk with me when Im outside traking care of the front landscaping all the time asking how the area is. Why not try that? Get to asking the immediate neighbors what their take is on the neighborhood.

I have a friend who lives near there - 43rd Ave & Butler. I don't think they have had any problems. They live on a quiet street which seems family friendly.

It's an established area; nicer than Maryvale. Look for a good street.

This is not very far from the Marvale area (a VERY "bad pocket")...although, this is an older area...there might be some quiet neighborhoods within, but this is not a great area.

personally, I would add that I would be more than likely to try further north (Arrwohead) or west (some areas of Peoria)if you want to stay close to that area in question. also thought about this, being adjacent to a high school, noisy football games, lots of teenage foot traffic, etc.

There is barely any crime over here what so ever. I have lived here for eleven years, and there have only been a few crimes committed in that time frame. It is a very safe neighborhood to live in. =]]
