Cell Phones - Legal In Az While Driving?
I'm hoping cell phones are not legal while driving in AZ - do you know? I think it's too distracting and should not be allowed. Just curious what the law is in AZ. Thanks

Sorry to say it is Legal in Arizona to talk while driving. The people here can't drive as it is, put a cell phone in there hand and it is deadly. I don't even feel safe walking my dog.

Whether there is a law in place doesn't prevent people from talking on their cell phone. I lived in NJ for several years and sitting in traffic on Route 1, everyone is chattin on their cell phones, disregarding "the law."
Moreover, these laws really do nothing. Chatting on a cell phone is equally if not less distracting than having someone else in the car.

Anyone see the Myth Busters?
Quote:
Cell Phones vs. Drunk Driving
Adam and Kari take on a contemporary issue in driving, one that has given conflicting scientific data. To do so, Adam and Kari perform a general-purpose road safety test three times (once while slightly under the legal alcohol limit, once while talking to Jamie on a cell phone, and once without either) and compare the three results.
Myth statement: Driving while talking on a cell phone is just as dangerous as driving while intoxicated.
Status: Confirmed
Notes: Both Adam and Kari failed a general-purpose road safety test while talking on a cell phone and while driving after drinking alcoholic beverages (though with just below .08 BAC, not legally drunk), with cell phone driving failing by a wider margin. However, Adam commented that one can easily put away a cell phone if necessary, but not simply become sober as needed.

Disagree!!
When I see a cell-chatting driver (no ear piece or bluetooth either, instead got the taco-neck position going), I do the same thing that I do when I see a -presumably- drunk driver (cause the vehicle moves in the same way), I drive pass them and stay ahead!
Call me sexist, call me chauvinistic but SUV driving, cell phone-chatting women gotta be the worst drivers out there hands down...
When riding my motorcycle, I almost got run over twice and guess what kinda car and driver they were! Thank god for my spider senses!

NY has this law as well, but whenever I'm there NO ONE is on the phone! They are strict with their police enforcement. If we had more fear with our police force I think this same law would work here.

I talk on my cellphone and drive, have been doing it for years...however, i don't do a taco neck, as somebody called it, i either drive with one hand on my phone or i drive with my earpiece...either way, rarely do I drive with both hands on the wheel anyways...i haven't caused any accidents nor have I been in accidents caused by cellphone talkers...if anything i'm more subject to get into an accident because of my driving style, I'm aggressive (from Detroit) what can I say lol.

In the past couple of years, I have seen a lot of people cross over lane lines on the freeway while driving. Several people have come close to hitting my car. They are almost always on their cell phone.
