Like my dad once told a client, she wanted her bushes trimmed and a couple of other things for like 50 bucks but wanted all the ss # and green cards of the workers and my dad told her he would give her himself the 50 bucks so she can start setting up interviews and backround checks and so on for her little shi$#y job, lol. Good luck mi amigo!!

I think one reason people like Hispanic laborers aside from their cheap fees is their lack of attitude. Hispanic laborers will not b#$3 and moan if you ask them to go back and do something. They may not speak great English but they don't give you attitude either.

Moderator cut: orphaned quote You really have a problem with someone spending their own hard earned money on gardeners?

I think it's the smartest investment I ever made. I used to do my own yardwork, and it would take 3 hours on a hot day to get it done. I would be sneezing for the rest of the day because I am allergic to bermuda and dust, I would have cuts on my arms and legs from some of the thorny bushes, and I would be sweaty and dirty. And it STILL wouldn't look as good as yards that had crews come by to take care of it. When I was in my late 20's and started making great money, it was a no-brainer. Now I have a baby and it makes even more sense.

The guy (who I am 90% sure is illegal) spends 30 minutes max with his crew, and get it done before the weekend, so I can enjoy my free time and enjoy my yard. They even do a re-seeding for free, and trim the trees, which most gardeners don't do. He is a great guy with a great family, and he appreciates the work. I even give him a nice $50 tip every year for Christmas.

But I guess I'm dumb, I should waste half of my Saturday and get sick and tired so that I can save the $100/month that I'll never miss.

I have done some of my own yard work, but over time, I'm less able to do it both in terms of time and the physical effort required. Time IS money, and is valuable to me, so I pay a reasonable fee when I want work done. The two different people I've used over the last several years have done a great job far faster than I could, with the proper tools, and I don't really care about their legal status.

Some sweat and scratches are worth it for me. I would be ashamed to be a hypocrite on the illegal alien issue. Or on any issue, for that matter. With the right plant choices, it is a relatively easy task.

I don't know if you considered this. but.. I used Labor Ready when we first did some landscaping work at our back yard.
I believe all the workers spoke excellent English, all were cleared with Labor Ready with E-Verify, and we paid Labor Ready out of the Chandler office.. 14 dollars an hour for these laborers.
It was worth it to us to have someone that knew what we wanted to have done, have someone to go back to if there were issues.
Of course, this was a one time deal...

BUT for the OP.. perhaps this is an option? yes?

Tell me about it! Not only do you have to buy a mower, hedge trimmer, gas and other equipment, it will take 4 times as long working in 100 degree heat. I too have a bad allergy to mold in the grass and once had to buy a Primatine Mist ASAP because my airways were closing off and I could barely breathe. In case people don't know, Primatine is aerosilized epinephrine (which I don't recommend) but it helped out in a pinch. Oh yeah, and like you said, my yard didn't look close to looking as nice when I did it. Agree 100%, it's the best investment I could make...well that and the $20 car washes at Dannys and other chains. They basically detail your car for $20. Time is money. I like the personal work ethic that is involved but I did that when I was 15. I don't need to do that now.

Smile Have you solved your problem?

Hi: I am curious to know how things turned out? I am interested in knowing some of your most important reasons for not wanting "illegals" on your property.

I am doing a talk to a HOA in a golf course community in southern Utah on the topic of NOT allowing illegals onto their development. I have a set of reasons and would like to know if my set matches yours or is different in any significant ways.

Please respond on this import ant topic.
Thanks

The #1 reason is if illegals can't find work here so easily, they won't be trying to cross the border so much. They will go other places that employ them instead. If that one simple rule was followed by everyone it would solve all other related stresses on the local economy.

I am stumped as to how there could be a whole "set" of reasons beyond that.

That's funny because I did work landscaping and the only reason I quit was because couldn't deal with the racism from the Hispanic "co-workers." I actually enjoyed it before having to listen to them.

Maybe that was the Hispanic side in me saying "you should do yard work" or maybe its because i had to do it my whole life and i know what im doing.
