If you are going to Check out Ahwatukee take a jog to the east a little in South Tempe into Chandler over by Kyrene and Chandler Blvd.

Hi NCDon....Could you tell us what KIND of neighborhood you are looking for. I ask because I think this is as important as the physical location. A lot of people, usually with kids, like the very new suburbs like Awatukee, Surprise, Anthem...and the majority of Gilbert, Chandler, etc. These areas are desireable to some and a turn off to others who don't like the somewhat sterile, cookie cutter archetecture. Soooo, if it's just you and your wife you may like this kind of area or really NOT like it. If you like character in a neighborhood you will really, really have to do some investigating. There are pockets of older houses that have been gentrified. These are very close to the VA Hosp. For $300-400 you will have to find an area that is just being rehabbed and the house might need a lot of work. This kind of deal can turn out very well financially if you are handy. If you want something move in perfect....These older houses are very expensive after someone else has fixed them up.

One area you might want to check out is Scottsdale by Old Town. Some of the areas have not gone sky high yet, but the area is very, very nice. Lots to do, lots of places to walk, shop, entertainment, etc. Again, depending upon if you want brand new, newer or old...you'll have to look around and eyeball what is available. This area would be about a 20+ or minus drive for you.

If you give more info on exactly what you are looking for, I'll give you some specific locations to look into. I live past N. Scottsdale but am lookinf for a small investment project....so I know the areas pretty well!
