Default Moving from NC to Phoenix Area

Does anyone have some suggestions for areas to live in the Phoenix area, $300-$400,000 house range that's reasonably close to the VA Medical Center (7th and Indian School Rd.)? Schools are not a concern; just the wife and myself. thanks in advance.

I hope someone can answer your question soon. In the meantime, I do have a question for you:
Why do you want to leave NC to move to the Phoenix area? I ask because I am thinking of relocating there and was previously planning on moving to the Phoenix area but didn't for many reasons.

Thanks.

Care to elaborate on "reasonably close"? For your price range, I'd look in North Phoenix. Nice area, not a bad drive to resturants, shopping, the VA etc etc.

Try Awhatukee Foothills.

But I agree with Itchick, why are you coming here, we are all going there.

Thanks for the responses. Job and kids/grand kids want us to get back out west. Besides, I grew in Pennsylvania and have lived the last several years in NC. I'll gladly make room for all of you that want to move back this way. Its westward-ho for me.

Cave Creek seems to be a nice area. How bad is the commute?

If you like desert, it's the place to be.

I am about to move out of the Cave Creek area to Austin...Cave Creek is a great area of Phoenix. Closer to the mountains and a bit cooler than other parts of town - and every degree counts in the hot summer months! I find it very laid back and unique...the residents are called "Creekers" and they take pride in their community.

I would think, though, that driving from CC to 7th street and Indian School might be a bear....you might want to mapquest it out and see what they estimate for drive times. I'm guessing you'd take the 51 south and that can get nasty.

Good luck in your search!

I agree with the Ahwatukee area recommendation for you. Solidly affluent professional type area, new, clean, good schools (Kyrene District), lots of nearby shopping. Desireable area. Traffic is somewhere between bad and awful, but that's a given around here. VA Med is in an older part of PHX with some "historic" neighborhoods nearby. There are some nice homes there, but they can be quite pricey for their size. North Phoenix area would be OK too. I used to live in Ahwatukee and know less about the North.

Thank you Ponderosa and Gigi. We are coming out house hunting in a few weeks and will check out the Ahwatukee area. I've determined that Cave Creek is too far of a commute. I'm going to bring the areas of consideration down south a little bit to Scottsdale and a little west of Scottsdale in the N. Phoenix area.
