Default Interesting unknown insect

Hello,

I just moved to Phoenix a month ago from NC. I graduated from high school in April, and I'm very interested in learning about the wildlife here before I go back east to college. I'm especially interested in the birds and insects. I found this insect/spider on the floor of my garage under a crate of shoes so I captured him in curiosity. I tried to look it up online, but to no avail. Does someone know what this is?

I know the pictures are really bad. . . sorry about that.

That looks like a tailless whipscorpion. No need to fear unless you are a cockroach or some other tasty bug.

Eva279. Thanks for this. I've seen these things around and wondered what they were. Thanks brittZ. I don't need to worry about those anymore, so that's one crossed off the "check your shoes for" list.

Yep, theyre correct! Tailless whipscorpion it is! Those are cool, I have a African species (Damon variegatus). Im willing to bet thats a Paraphrynus mexicanus, you can Google that name if you want more info.

Yeah, that was mean. Theyre really cool creatures, wouldnt hurt a thing. Fear Factor took ALOT of flak from that stunt by activists. Im no activist, but cmon, dont eat live animals, thats just cruel.
