I would rather spend the money on the actual property and not on taxes. The actual cost to me may be very similiar in Phoenix as compared to Rochester, but I am spending it on something tangible. It is frustrating seeing all the money that is spent on taxes in NY.

The small business climate in NY is also very bad and the state does not make it easy to own a small business.

I have always loved the Western US and I am glad to finally be making the move out of NY. I do like NY, but after 35 years, it is time for me to move on and I am pleased to be heading out West.

BTW, I will not miss shoveling snow for 7 months of the year. We have had snow from October through April here! But weather is only a side benefit to the move and certainly not a deciding factor in our decision to leave upstate NY.

Thanks for all the comments.

Like I have said in other posts there is good and bad everywhere.

Yep I do! and so what. It's a personal opinion. I'll take the bad in Phoenix or anywhere compared to NY. Again........so what? My experience and I own it. That's all.

I was in Phoenix for 19 years and I still say it's better than NY, I have never wished I was back in NY not one time. I haven't even visited in 19 years. Charlotte is as close as I'm getting to NY.

Sorry for wishing you well. I guess I should have said I'm sorry you had to move out of NY because of taxes. Anyway do your best to enjoy Phoenix.

Everyone knows there is crappy areas of every corner of every state in the USA (and the world too). NY is beautiful, absolutely beautiful. AZ is also absolutely beautiful. There are, what, 17 million people in NY? They cant all be wrong. ;-)

bigjdotcom01, good luck in your move. Have you visited AZ before?

I would agree that NY is a beautiful place, but for us, it is time to move on. We are both looking for a fresh start and we couldn't be more excited about moving to Arizona.

I have been out to Phoenix twice and my sister moved out in January and loves it. I have also been to Las Vegas in the middle of July and August so I know what to expect from the heat. I will be coming back out in the middle of June to hopefully buy a house. The last trip was spent checking out the areas that we would like to live in the valley.

Thanks for all the well wishes. We are both extremely excited about the move.

The Hudson Valley is very beautiful. I think it's a great area to move to for relaxtion and getting back to nature. Many on these boards love NY and many have left Phoenix to go back home. I don't think my personal experience of 26 years in NY should persuade anyone not to move there or go back home for that matter. I'm sorry I have offended you and I'm sorry you have to leave a place that you love.

As far as bad mouthing Phoenix some of the places in Phoenix deserve bad mouthing. Some people have never been here, I'm trying to point them in a decent direction. I don't remember calling anyone in Phoenix a snob I said NY and didn't say everyone. I have never lived in Scottsdale some they those people are snobs but I haven't lived there so I can't say it.

I'll tone done my opinion on NY I know how much pride NY'ers have in their home.

I consider my home to be Phoenix but I haven't jumped down anyone's throat on here with a negative opinion of it. Some people might think Phoenix is a living hell the way some of these people write.

Well, I will now live in both New York and Arizona with my recent acquisition of a house in Vistancia. Anyway, the taxes can be a killer, with us paying $13,000 a year for our home here.
