Thumbs up New Info About Surprise

I've learned some new stuff about Surprise that gives me hope! I live here, and I like the look of it, the new shops, and the low crime. Traffic, lack of big stores and entertainment, and over-crowded schools are at the top of my list for reasons not to like it. I'm happy to hear that the mayor who keeps denying efforts to widen roads and add traffic lights is probably on her way out in the coming election. The guy who seems to be her biggest competition really wants to use taxpayer's money to address the traffic concerns.

In addition, we're getting a mall off the 303, a Desert Ridge type mall off Grand (way west) and right behind my house they're building a huge shopping center with a movie theatre! Two more theatres are planned to break ground this year, too. You may be laughing at my excitement over this, but when you have to drive 20-40 minutes to get to the movies, you become excited over this news!

The school situation has gotten better since the boom ended, but I can hardly imagine they've worked out everything. In spite of this, I hope that my property value goes up with the movie theatre!

I thought I'd share with all of you. Has anyone else heard of new stuff going up in Surprise? There was once a rumor about Six Flags coming; is that pretty much dead now???

Once again - Six Flags does NOT build parks from scratch. They buy existing parks and upgrade them to their 'standards.' And with a company in as much debt as Six Flags is, that's not going to happen any time soon. (There are rumors going around that they're going to close another ring of parks. Magic Mountain among them.)

Don't know why these "WE'RE GETTING A SIX FLAGS!" rumors keep popping up.

That said, the new development in Surprise - It's called Prasada. It looks pretty neat.

I live near Magic Mountain (California). They are not closing it. Daniel Snyder owns the company (Washington Redskins Owner). When the Six Flags announced which parks it was selling in January 2007, Magic Mountain was not one of them.

The major concerns were.
1. sits on very valuable property.
2. has become a playground for all the LA gangs.

I will be living in Surprise by the end of next month

Still, a lot of the enthusiast crowd was caught off guard when they announced that Astroworld would be closing. It drew pretty good business, or at least it seemed to. So the same thing could happen to Magic Mountain. It would be kind of sad to see Magic Mountain go, as it's been one of their flagship parks since it opened. Oh well. I do think Snyder is doing the right thing by trying to reinvent the parks as family oriented.

That's a discussion for another place though.

Another development in Surprise I heard about was a little high density commercial/residential village that would be built between Parkview and Bullard just north of the stadium. I haven't heard much about it lately, though Has anybody else?

I've heard that it's a Mall of America, and then I heard that it's a Wescore mall.
