This to me is a ridiculous statement. The golf, sun and all the other original reasons will still be here, and you will be able to sit by a pool in a Scottsdale Resort and have no inkling that there is a theme park in some other part of the city.

I seriously doubt a person makes a choice to come to Phoenix because they take comfort in the fact that it has NO theme parks anywhere nearby! And if thats what kind of people we are attracting, then what a miserable demographic, and I still say we need something else.

I am one to complain about cookie cutter living, but if I had to vote whether to turn hundreds of acres into yet another master plan, or create something of entertainment value, I'd choose the entertainment. More cookie cutters are coming one or the other, theme park or not, and thats a given.

It's too hot there in the summer and most of the rest of the country just views PHX as a town full of non-English speakers that's overrun by gang violence.

I'd never go to PHX for vacation. Even if it had a water park on every corner.

Do you see anyone on here speaking Spanish? I grew up in Phoenix, and I never knew anyone who could not speak English. Now I do agree that Phoenix needs to improve on the entertainment factor. That was one of the contributing factors on why I moved to Vegas.

Guess I'm a miserable demographic then. Although I doubt the merchants will complain much when they take my plastic next week.

Sorry if that sounded harsh... I didn't mean that you were. I just mean that there is already a certain profile that comes here, and maybe its time to expand on that.

I think it would do Phoenix some good to think along the lines of how it could offer something to the current residents and the city as whole other than just MORE housing. Phoenix could expand endlessly into the desert in virtually all directions, but at some point such a large city needs to add a little diversity to actually retain its residents or it will just collapse on itself... like it already did.

Is it really a good idea to just add another ring of housing around the city, the same corporate big box stores, and then just close it in with a loop 404? At what point do you try to offer a population more?

Dude, that's why they aren't positng on here. None of use are using Spanish. Everytime I go to PHX I have such a hard time ordering a burrito without onions. They just stare at me like I am speaking some foreign language....

How would you know, you are from Alaska. What is a non-English speaker to you...anyone who is brown. What do you consider a vibrant nightlife in Alaska...running over Moose? Of course it's too hot here for you, when your "summer" is a month long and still requires long sleeves.

It's always funny because the people you would expect to criticize Phoenix like NY, LA and SF residents are not the ones who criticize Phoenix. It's people from Houston, Philly and now Alaska. Classic!

LOL, this person is either being facetious, lying, or is just ridiculous! They just stare at him/her when he/she orders a burrito without onions??? What kind of burrito comes with onions, is what I am wondering? And since when is "burrito" not a spanish word? LOL

The only one I can think of is at the bean burrito at taco bell. However, they always understood when I said no onions so I doubt this story.

Bwahaha. I'd like to try a burrito with onions. It sounds.... exotic.
