Are Most Office Type Jobs In The Actual City Of Phoenix? (Glendale: budget, incomes)

My husband and I are considering a move to AZ - he was laid off a few weeks ago. He did clerical billing/accounting office work. He does not have college. (He used to be a draftman but his skills are antiquated now as it's all auto-cad computerized). We wonder if most jobs would be in the actual downtown area - and he would dread the commute as we wanted to live in Surprise - or Peoria. Perhaps Peoria would not be too bad. Are there many office type jobs in Surprise, Glendale or Peroia does anyone know - in general?

There are several office parks in Glendale and West Phoenix but the vast majority of office jobs are in central Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale. And yes, the commute would be a nightmare.

No most of the jobs are not downtown, thank goodness. Your husband will have lots of job options on the North side. Metro Center area usually has a lot. I think Safeway's Corp accounting is up there. I don't know if it's still there but it was a few years ago. Check out some employement agencies. Also put his resume up on careerbuilder.

Jobs in the Phoenix area are not clustered in an urban core like other large cities. There are plenty of oppurtunities all over the metro area. So, no, chances are you wouldn't have to commute downtown unless you really wanted to.

And keep in mind that the City of Phoenix is very large (over 470 sq. miles) Part of it is actually only a few miles from Peoria, with Glendale separating the two. So you could have job in Phoenix and still have a very short commute from Peoria.

Hello -- There are office jobs scattered all over the metropolitan Phoenix area. Out toward Peoria and Surprise, there are jobs in Surprise itself, Sun City and Sun City West, around the Arrowhead Mall, around Zanjero and Westgate [by the new stadiums], the Glendale Business Park, the Talavai Business Park near 59th and Bell, at the USAA and American Express campuses, near 27th Ave and I-17, and all along I-17 from Deer Valley down to the Metrocenter area. There are also offices in old-town Glendale, and lots of new offices in Avondale. Offices are all over! Just keep in mind that housing costs have risen drastically since 2004 and incomes have not kept up with housing costs in the Phoenix area, so you need to determine your budget and place of residence accordingly. Transportation costs are high, too. Good luck!

The commute from Peoria wouldnt be bad, but if he had to commute from Surprise to downtown... yikes.

Thats like an hour, ONE WAY!

Litchfield Park to downtown is 20 minutes and its a great neighborhood.

the only time your going to make it from Litchfield Park to downtown in 20 minutes is on a Saturday afternoon when there is no sporting event. Oh and you will need to be driving at about 80 MPH. It will probably take you an hour and a half on a Monday morning.

I made it into work in 20 minutes every day this week... at 6:00 AM... on the I 10.

Driving the speed limit even.

I drive it every day, I think I am able to speak as an authority on how long it takes me to make the commute.
How is it possible you could tell me otherwise?
