midwestgirl is on a distinguished road
I grew up in Michigan, moved to AZ in the early 70's. I loved it here. I moved to CA for work, got married and after 30 years I am back in AZ. The area I used to live in is very scary now. It breaks my heart. I live north of Phoenix now and love it. I can put up with the heat better than the cold. It is location, location, location as the realtors will tell you. There is good and bad here as with every other town in America. Where I live is not immune to crime, but it is not like living in South Phoenix. My son lives in central Phoenix and would not move out of the downtown for anything.
You need to look at what your interests are, get involved in an organization.
Make friends at work. Get involved. You can listen to www.kfyi.com on your computer at night. It is talk radio that covers what is going on in town to the
serial killers.....that have been on the loose for the last year, but they are just now being labeled. Life is what you put into it.
I moved to CA for work, moved into an apartment and my next door neighbor became my husband. We have been together for 30 years. I moved there knowing not a soul.
JMHO
Just a Midwestgirl.

I like the area of the PV mall (and north and northeast from there). Somewhere in NE Phx is nice, bordering scottsdale. Some parts are old and some are newer and nice. I have been in a few of the nice apt complexes, but I think they all went condo. I have had my car broken into a couple of times up that way and once it was stolen (not recovered . So, even though it was a nice area, that's where the crooks steal from.

In scottsdale, I would go somewhere near 56th st and bell area, that's a great neighborhood and they have a few complexes there.

Yes, don't live near Metrocenter (cop helicopters everynight).

I lived in Northern area of Peoria, that was a decent area. (83rd ave and union hills). But I rented a new house up there.

For me, I have stayed in the Northern areas of the valley. I now live (bought a house) in North Glendale right next to Arrowhead (that's a nice area!). Several apts near 59th ave and south of 101. I would probably live there if I had to be an apt again. Rent is probably around $750-1000 for a 1 or 2 bedroom.

Hope that helps. If I think of any other areas I'll let you know. BTW, I am planning on moving out of AZ sometime. As a native, I don't care for it. TOO hot, too much crime, too many idiot drivers, too many people in general, housing costs too much now, not many educated people, low pay... the list goes on. I would choose Madison.

What will you being doing for CPS? I thought about working for them, but they were always under investigation and over worked and under paid. (I'm a psychotherapist).
