A Chinese solar firm, SunTech announce a move into the Phoenix area. Besides First Solar, a German firm, this will be a second large international firm to have a presence in our region and a huge contribution to the economy. Think of the windfalls: additional Asian flights to Sky Harbor, more international tourists and business visitors, a higher profile international presence in the Valley and the list goes on:

I hope they pick the west side of Phoenix but the article read more like Chandler to me.

I have a feeling that the Tempe, Phoenix border is more likely. Why? Because First Solar and ASU's research facilities are in this vacinity. And I was wrong, in June of this year, Aide Solar was actually first Chinese company in Arizona. It moved its headquarters to Tempe.

All I know is, the mayor of Chandler recently made a trip all the way to china to meet with the heads of several firms, to try to lure them to Chandler, and now one of them is coming to our state. The Price corridor in Chandler is already outfitted with the infrastructure to handle this kind of an operation. That's something the West Valley will have against it. Although I'm sure if they pony up enough cash, they could get it done. I'm hoping it's Chandler.

Hopefully we can continue getting operations in America, and Arizona in particular. This article on CNBC indicates that China currently has the edge on solar operations and many facilities are moving FROM America TO China. Either way, it looks like a win for Phoenix right now!

That's a good deal! it's time for Az to step up and think about bringing in 'solar entities' for business here. Perfect place for testing new products, AZ is, based on how many days of sun we get every year.

I have always wondered why we don't have more solar yet, we get sun most of the year, it seems like the perfect place.

The facility should be running within a year, employing 75 people at first, 150 after a year of operations and 250 or more at full build-out.
