Moving from Florida in Two weeks (Scottsdale: home, company, cost)

I'm just about packed and ready to make the move from S. FL to Scottsdale. (company transfer). Got a patio home in McCormick Ranch and will move June 1. Office is on E Van Buren near the airport. So here are a few questions:

Realistically, how long will the commute be? I've been told everything from 20 min to an hour.

Is the cost of AC this summer gonna kill me? I can't imagine it being higher than Florida.

Is it really gonna cost $800 to register my car? I just got it 9 months ago.

Where should a single woman in midlife go to meet people and make friends?

Mmm - what are you paying now on your electricity on what sort of Square footage? Pool? What do you normally set your air conditioning on. Give us the dirt, Laurice!

Mmm - depends what kind of car you have. Have you called out here w/ the Motor Vehicle Division to check the fee?

I am a 30's married - but perhaps you could start a thread and ask other women who may be in the same boat as you are. I am sure they will have tons of ideas.
