I was in North Bergen NJ just over the George Washington Bridge off of Blvd East. It was an attic apt in a 3 family home and it was gross. I had to paint it and get carpet remnants. I had to park my car somedays 4 or 5 blocks from my house. I rather spend the money on an apt in California that has a swimming pool and spa and walking distance to the beach and central air. This was years ago in 1985 I'm long gone now, since then I've lived in Phoenix for 19 yrs and now in Charlotte.
Some people really like that kind of living in NYC, try it, you only live once.

I'm a native Californian, but as much as I LOVE California, I think Phoenix would be a better place for you at this point in your life. Phoenix is more affordable than CA and they have schools and jobs and a lot of things to do too.

But, hey, that is just me.

It is worth it to live in NY City. Don't listen to those who complain it's too expensive. Go for it.

I'm in CA now and it's beautiful and I can live here for the rest of my life ... which is exactly why I'm recommending NYC. Go enjoy it and live it up and when you decide you've had enough excitement, you can move somewhere more laid back like CA.
As for Phoenix, it's boring as hell if you're under 60 and not a retiree. The cost of living is really the only attraction and the only reason anyone moves there.

Right on. NYC is for high caliber 20-30 year old professionals that are willing to burn out in 3-5 years and then move elsewhere or elsewhere outside of Manhattan. Non-stop hustle and bustle, mean people, expensive and capitalism at its best... You are always on the go, and relationships last rarely as you are always moving on to something or someone else...

Let us know what you decide. Good luck! Remember you only live once if you really want to live in NYC give it a shot. If you can make it there you can make it anywhere it's up to you New York New York. That's a song but probably true.....LOL
