Mesa's full of nasty neiborhoods. I'd say Peoria or Buckeye. I half own a gorgeus home in Buckeye but the Ex is living there....... So now I'm renting an apt in Mesa and I got to say I hate Mesa and really miss Buckeye

No work location isn't a worry for me. I've taken a early retirement and will have to work but only partime and I'm flexable in what to work at. Yes I was thinking of Prescott but the housing seems a bit high. I love the little town but the outskirts are similiar to back east and that's want I want to get away from. snow yuk! Anyway I didn't realize Buckeye was so far out. I like a small community but not farm land.

Maybe if I just concentrate on Peoria or Mesa it will be easier and less confusing. Their pretty good size and there will be a lot to choose from. thanks...

You should check out Verrado in Buckeye. Awesome neighborhood with friendly neighbors. You've picked opposite areas of Phoenix though ... just remember Phoenix Metro is HUGE so please consider commute time, too, or else driving every day will get uber-tiring.

However I', torn between the peacefulness of Buckeye, the schools in Peroria, and the character of Mesa. I want a good highschool, a house or apartment with character, not be too isolated, to be able to run to the store, or grab a movie to rent, go to the library etc. but I also like to be friendly with neighbors, I don't care if they know my business. The houses are cheaper in Buckeye, but it's sort of way out. In Mesa the housing has more character but are more expensive. Peoria has a good school but is the neighborhoods starting to become run down.
Goodyear is a better choice since you threw in Buckeye. Most of Mesa is not worth drive by to say the least (unsafe to live) . I don't know about Peroria so have no idea. For me i like some where safe, close to major freeway, good schools, shopping centers closed by. And lastly, future developments. Goodyear fit the bill as i see it.

Uh...that's a bit of a blanket statement. There are parts of Mesa that are unsafe, just like there are parts of Phoenix that are unsafe, parts of Peoria that are unsafe etc. etc. Sounds like you haven't explored the whole city which is huge to say the least...

Buckeye is pretty far from everything and the growth has slowed with falling real estate prices on the outskirts.

I realize my posting might be a little late, but I just had to throw my two cents out there. My husband and I moved to Buckeye, Az from the Central Valley in California in June 2008. The town I moved from had a population of 55,000 residents. The reason we moved here was job related, my husband transferred with his job, we visited the area prior to moving out here, which I strongly suggest you do if you're considering moving here. Buckeye is definitely an acquired taste so to speak. We bought and built a home in the Broadway/Watson area, we are about 3 miles from Fry's/Wal Mart and the previous post above me is correct, there really is no "town" There is a little downtown area that we don't frequent all to often, because well, there's really nothing there. If you want to go to a movie, you will need to drive to Goodyear, or for any real shopping you will need to drive to Goodyear as well. The main thing I dislike about Buckeye is the feeling of being so far out in the country that you are isolated. Yes the peaceful evenings are nice, the dairy smell, not so much. I also believe the schools here are not to be admired, I have a ten year old attending an elementary school in Buckeye and I am not impressed. I love my beautiful home, but that is pretty much it.
