I saw a 3/2 house for rent (it's a sublet) for 1000 a month on Indian School & 59th Ave. That is SOOOO cheap, but it looks very nice! Never been to Phoenix, but might like to spend a nice HOT summer month there!
(Please don't tell me about the heat! I lived in Tucson & LOVED the summers! Couldn't get hot enough! Couldn't take the winters - that's why I'm in Miami! Those that know me from the FL/Miami boards know about me & the heat. So please don't bother...! ) I'm from NY, live in Miami, so if the area is mixed, that's fine. I don't need white bread suburbia! I mean, that's fine if it is, but I'm just explaining that as long as I wouldn't be robbed, or have racism toward ME, I don't care if I'm basically the only whitey! (I sure am where I live! )Now if it's all Mexican, (as opposed to black) I DO mind, cause I don't speak spanish!!! So please enlighten me on this area & maybe another that would be a cool place for the summer (yeah, not "cool" - hot, yeah, I got it... ) Also, are there ANY areas where you can walk? Like in Miami, you can't really walk, but you actually COULD manage cause of busses etc. And Miami Beach you don't even WANT a car!!! Thanks Phoenixians! (what do ya'll call yourselves?!) Enjoy your awesome weather!!! ![]() |

That is easily the worst area in the entire city. STAY FAR FAR AWAY!
That district of the city is Maryvale, and it is well known for crime, drugs & prostitution. Move farther west and you'll be ok. I just sold my house in Litchfield park and it has been a great place to live. The commute to dowtown Phoenix was only 20 minutes. Good Luck! ![]() |

Yep, that's Maryvale and that's the worst part of the phoenix area. It's on the news ALL the time with shootings, robberies, etc. It is virtually all mexican, and lower income ---that's why is so cheap!

Thanks guys! Yeah, I figured it was that cheap for a reason...So what are the regular joe shmo areas? (No HOAs, gated communities, etc) And what about the walking thing? Thanks!

Try out Tempe-- that's more of your middle-of-the-road place you seem to have in mind.

No HOA's will (generally) mean you will get something 15-20 years old or older. I do not think that they sell any new houses with a mandatory HOA now. If you are looking to rent, then look in Tempe, Mesa, maybe parts of Chandler (might be a little more than $1K per month). Also, usually the owner will pay the HOA fee -- not the renter.
Downtown Tempe is where all of the ASU students hang out, and is fine for just walking around. However, most of the generall Phoenix area is more geared towards drivign everywhere. Also, I don't think you will find very many gated areas for less than $1K per month. |

You can find hundreds of homes in the valley for $1000/month. Don't go into a bad area for the same price.

CHeck out Gilbert for renting - lots of homes for that price and its a great area to be in.

Avoid that area like the plague.
