I would not use a handyman to install a soft water system, because there is sawing involved on the copper line, as well as welding. There can be real problems caused if someone does it wrong. I have used Ahwatukee Plumbing in the past for small plumbing things.

It depends, when you say "good handyman," are you referring to the guys with inflated sense of self-worth who charge $50-$60/hour? That's pretty easy. What's hard is to find a real handyman for $15-$20/hour.
