I was actually surprised to find out that Scotland was only slightly cooler than England. Because of Edinburgh's latitude, I expected snow and normal freezing temps at night at least; but it is more like Seattle than Boston...and like Seattle, the temperature between Summer and Winter can be relatively similar, LOL! I can understand the need for a change.

However, I also thought that Edinburgh was spelled Edinburough (during my high school years) because of the Scottish dialect. Had a foreign exchange student from Edinburgh and his pronunciation of it sounded like Edinburough to American ears, LOL!

He was also very "rugged" and "sturdy" compared to our British exchanges. I know that is a stereotype, I mean Bear Grylls is British and I love watching his show and he's rugged! One can tell Grylls is British though because he likes removing his clothes, oh, and his show is on right now!

And right now, I am actually in Rochester, NY due to a family "misfortune" so I will be having a white Christmas and perhaps New Year as we must trek it to "the city"... It is 23 degrees right now! And no mountain in sight to at least hit the slopes... or snow for that matter. This area missed the "big one." So it is just cloudy and arctic...

Trust me, winter is not fun. It snowed heavily here in Vegas for only one day last year, and it was hell. I had to drive in it, and doing my foot patrols made me hate snow with a passion.

I was thinking its probably great for the ski resorts in the area too! But ya, LVD, a different story when you work in it vs. play in it.

It will be a little more "magical" and tolerable in NYC! The lights and the sights and even Flagstaff is magical and very active and lively with the snow; Rochester, not so much...

Well I still ask why Phx? Its the most extreme difference of where you are used to. You may find something with less of what you don't like rather than having to do a 180 and move to the exact opposite.

Hey, if your mind is made up, not trying to change it, but its sorta the same when a person says they hate the heat, so decide on moving to Antarctica.

I think he cited the weather and natural surroundings as appealing and that his career will bring him here as well...

I understand a career bringing you here, but as far as weather and surroundings, there is a pretty big country out there with something a little more middle of the road between Scotland and Arizona climate.

Some people may be acting rashly in the coldest part of winter when they decide they are going to enjoy one of the hottest places on the entire planet.
