I am only saying that sometimes it gets old heckling other places in order to enjoy where you live.

I have not read threads in other city forums that are focused intently on how happy they are to NOT be dealing with the nuclear meltdown that is Phoenix in the summer. They are out enjoying their beautiful weather. I am not trying to twist this and make it get ugly, but sometimes I feel like I'm still in high school. I don't mean the idea of appreciating that we are avoiding snow, but the laughing at others misery part.

I think it does have something to do with your bias against Phoenix, nonetheless, it does exist in other cities' forums and blogs about Phoenix in the summer; I've seen it on transit blogs in other cities where people made fun of Phoenix' heat and light rail and many said that NO ONE/literally many claiming only hundreds per day (if Phoenix was lucky) would be out standing in the sun under those little canopies when it's "120 degrees" to ride the light rail; little did they know...

But often, people from other cities come on to the Phoenix thread to start the "competitive" comments. I'm sure if you do a search of threads in other cities like "phoenix weather" you are sure to find things; right now would be a the slow season for such threads though...

I can admit this much...

I CAN see myself moving away and using how much I HATED living here to intensify how much I love it wherever I move. So, I'm not some superior being in that respect. But seeing as though I don't care for it here, I don't share in all the excitement...

Its probably because I don't look at the snow and thank my lucky stars I avoided it. I have not had to fight with snow as a working adult and all my memories of it are positive ones... my kids love going up north and snowboarding we started them young on it. Too many times we have been up to snowbowl or sunrise with poor conditions, snow melting rapidly, and the lodges operating at half capacity.

In a sick and twisted way, I am bummed I missed out on it... so I'm juvenile in the respect that I equate it with happy times and not with the shoveling/scraping.

I can only imagine how great it's been (having lived in DC for some time). Everything is broken out there anyway; snow just makes everything more broken.

But, snow is pretty, and it doesn't last for long.

Four or five years ago, I left my home in DC and flew off on a business trip. The next day, it snowed something like six inches. I don't know how much, but it was a lot. Everything was screwed up, airports were closed, and grocery stores were cleaned out (this is a Northern Virginia tradition, to empty out grocery stores of milk and toilet paper for an inch of snow). I watched from afar with fascination, as the area was paralyzed. Not even a week later I returned, and there was no snow, except for small patches on the north sides of hills, in the shade. It was as if it never happened.

Nah, everyone knows how bad the weather sucks in Phoenix May through October. It got monotonous stating the obvious.

Even people who hate Phoenix' summers usually extend the periods of heat as being May-October and some even admit the exaggeration. 90 in May is warm, but in Phoenix it is dry and nights are very cool so it doesn't matter. I think the misery for heat haters starts in mid June when temps can and do reach 110 and nights start to stay in the 80's; that is something I like for some weird reason and night swimming! Try that somewhere else in July (wait I did in the NW nearly succumbing to hypothermia, LOL)!

But it is those little "inconveniences" that will make or break an area for people. It is hard to deny that winter doesn't make a mess of things all across the country. I remember a little snow storm in Virginia, Newport News where I lived to be exact, turned the "Tide Water Region" into a mess. Literally a couple of inches of snow caused catastrophic events everywhere, most noticeably the freeways. Then it was gone at noon but the mess remained. Same with Texas cities I've lived in. The freeways were winter's version of the slip and slide for bumper cars ever time those conditions existed.

Gosh if that started happening alot, the kids would grow up loving rain. I think this may be part of my subconscious reason for still loving snow. Moved away from snow before being an adult, so never had negative experiences to kill those earlier years of cheering for a blizzard and no school days.

I love Phoenix in all seasons, and especially the summer because the monsoon is so interesting. Ok, that out of the way, I used to work on the east coast. The snow storm is no big deal. It struck over the weekend when people did not have to work for the most part. They will be back to work Monday. They clear the roads very fast and efficiently. I'm probably going back to work there in late 2010.

Actually, here in Northern Virginia, they have closed all of the schools for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday because of the storm. And the Federal Government is closed on Monday. Up north in Massachusetts, they handle it better, but this kind of storm paralyzes DC.
