I said "monster" storm. The whole reason I posted the link is because it was so unusual and so impressive. I am a weather freak. The storm was cool, that's all. You homesick whiners are always posting silly (the reverse could happen here)off-topic defenses of wherever it is you all came from, wish you were or can't get out of. I'm not one of the ones gloating over the crappy eastern weather and even if I were, you and Steve-o can go kiss a snowman for all I care. I don't even remember what living there was like. Most of what I do recall is pleasant memories of the stuff I did as a young fellow in the winter.

My Christmas wish is that all the malcontents on this forum can find their way back "home" this coming year.

Exactly and look at what we are missing in the summer. Up north the summer has beautiful weather while we are stuck indoors with miserable heat.

Not me!

I am out swimming, hiking, river rafting, wearing shorts/t-shirts/flip flops/ and exploring Arizona...

Umm, river rafting in Phoenix?? Hiking in 115* + ???

The only thing that sounds possible in Phx in the summer out of what you wrote is swimming t-shirts and flip flops...

The person who you wrote that to mentioned "up north" which is where you go for river rafting and summer exploring. Phoenix itself is not an ideal destination to be in the summer by any means.

Um, yeah, where have you been the last 28 years in Arizona! It is more tubing on the salt, LOL, sorry not "white water rafting" but definitely on a river in the Valley that is quite cold against the nice hot air. How many times was it 115 this summer or close? I bet you will find only a few days it was over 110; probably less than 25 days...more like between 102-107...

I hike in the summer here all the time, the mountains as well. Usually go in the morning and know how to properly; there are many people out doing the same thing. Those unprepared make the news; we saw a few this summer and one Alaskan family that took a couple of water bottles and ended up in a tragic situation.

Don't forget about swimming, water parks, etc! There is plenty to do. Like doing my yard work in the morning and evenings too! Run during those times as well.

Phoenix is an ideal destination for many during the summer; just not you obviously. The resorts always have people from out of town staying and traveling to Phoenix for the ideal summer vacation with some great hot temps where they can enjoy the sun, pools, views, etc

Last post on this subject for me.

If you said tubing I would have understood, river rafting made me wonder if you were prone to hallucinations from your 115* summertime hikes.

Mornings and evenings are tolerable, and sure if you like to get up with the roosters for an early morning hike, great...

Your post was a little on the candy coated side. Resorts drop their rates in summer, its OFF PEAK as visitors are WAY down, people stay away in the summer because its NOT ideal for most.

Summer is the time to pay the piper for the nice winters in Phoenix. Tolerable and habitable is pretty different from ideal.

Not... most are indoors with their AC due to the humidity...if they go out...they have mosquitos or other flippin flying bugs.....

Looking it up, but so far have only counted 2 days over 112 this summer in Phoenix; on the July calendar looking at the temps we experienced. June was mostly in the 80's and 90's this year...

Usually head out with bf, friends, family, etc between 6-8 and end around 10-12 depending how long we walk/hike/bike, etc...Usually make it a rule not to be out hiking between 2-6 pm because these are the worst times to be doing strenuous exercise in Phoenix during summer temps.

So, does that make a Phoenix vacation any less "ideal" because summer rates are lower? No way! And yes it is off peak meaning vacancy rates rise but they are FAR from empty.

For you, but it is ideal for me and millions of others...just as there are those that find snow drifts "ideal" for them, sunshine is ideal for some of us to live in...

Having lived in both conditions: winter of 1977 in DC with no heat (broken furnace) and a few days in an apt building in Bullhead City during the summer with dead AC------------I will still take the latter.

I have to partially agree with you on this. If where you live has plenty of festivals and celebrations, the cold and snow isn't as noticeable or painful, sometimes.
