I too have been in contact with the school on behalf of my son. Tuition is now up about $28,000. You have to go out to the FAFSA website to apply for a grant to hopefully get up to $11,000. If you can't get grants and scholarships to fund the full tuition, then you can get a loan for $20,000 that you don't have to start paying back until you've been out of school for 6 months. No credit check to get the loan. I too am looking for information. There's a meter you will have to buy for a cost of $120. You get half off of any of the Snap on Tools you purchase while there. They will not send you the books in advance. Books can't leave the campus. They will help you find a part time job and a place to live. I have read some other threads to read that there are some really bad areas one should not choose to live in. The MMI person who is helping us said Dealerships call them first to find new staff. My question was how to learn if dealerships in Houston were hiring. Our rep referred me to the Labor Board website to learn about the pay. Supposedly right under $17 an hour to start out. Some technicians at dealerships make up to $51,000 annually and they (?) expect that amount to go up in 2011. It's Harley Davidson's theory that when gas goes up, more people will turn to bikes to ride. Harley Davidson's stock was at about $30 the first lf last week and went up almost $3 after a couple of days. That would be something to watch. You don't have to put up money to buy an HD Dearlership, but HD does an analysis of where it's best to open a dealership and you have to have $2 million dollars and managment experience to open a dealership.

My question is, is the market flooded with Harley Davidson MMI technicians? What if my son gets this certification and MMI finds him a job in a state/town he doesn't want to go live in? He wants to return home to Houston. We have plans to open a shop for him, but I think it would be good experience for him to work at a dealership for at least 6 months to a year to learn how things are supposed to be ran. A plus per the rep we are talking to is that Dearlerships will not fix m/c's older than 10 years old so that leaves the owner who has a bike older than 10 years to going to a repair shop; however, how easy will it be for us to get parts?

Default Seeking MMI Students feedback on their experience at MMI

Seeking feedback from people who signed up to attend MMI? Was it what the rep says it is? Is the training as valuable as the "MMI Rep" states it will be for one to attend? Were you able to obtain a job in the area that you wanted to live/work in? Did you start out at a rate of pay you were happy with? Did you end up having to get a loan to pay for the tuition? Where did you live? What areas near MMI do you recommend to live in?
thanks!

Since this is the Phoenix, AZ forum, are your questions regarding the employment outlook in Phoenix or Houston? If not, you might want to ask on the appropriate state/city forum.
