We are looking to move to the Phoenix area in the next few months. Will be working as a physician at Phoenix Children's Hospital. We have a large family (5 kids) and NO we are not Mormon!

What is the best option for families in the metro area? Looking for great high schools and community with things to do (recreation centers, restaurants and bars, ice hockey programs for the kids). And lastly - not a terrible commute to the hospital.

TIA!

Welcome to Phoenix! We will need budget if you want any relevant suggestions.

But short answer is you are probably looking for Arcadia if it’s in your budget.

Without much more to go on, I'd say 85018 (north of the canal - Arcadia proper) or 85012/4 (Uptown). Both within a reasonable commute to the hospital with lots of affluent families with affluent family amenities, more so in Arcadia. Are you more city or suburb people? Do you like neighborhoods that have history and character or do you prefer newer, more homogeneous neighborhoods?

Thank you DetroitN8V! We have live in both downtown Denver and Chicago and now are in the burbs of Denver. Houses were bigger and schools are better. We are open to both!

Scottsdale, no question. Easy reverse commute. It’s exactly what your looking for. By far the nicest town in the valley.

Nicer than Paradise Valley? Nicer than Arcadia? Arcadia is one of the nicest areas in the valley and would be an easier commute than from the nicer areas of Scottsdale.

Telling someone Scottsdale means nothing. It’s so big, that statement has little substance.

But I’ll concur with Detroit, I’d be looking in Arcadia without question.

North Scottsdale gets the OP closer to ice hockey for the kids. Other than that, Arcadia is a much better commute, and Has a lot of the rest going for it. Spent most of my childhood there, it will always be a favorite in my book.
