Attending a conference during weekdays...Thinking I won't be to go out until the 5-6pm range. Looking at trip advisors, about dot com and searching on here and while I can find a various parks and zoos, but with traffic I'm unsure if they'd be open by the time I get to them. I'm in my late 20s and would like to visit the "party" spots(if there are any on a Thursday night). Also looking for some good non-chain restaurants. Lastly, I'd be interested in taking some photos of the landscape and such, but again am restricted to not getting to places until later...

Any suggestions?

a late 20s party guy may want to check out the happenin' Scottsdale nightclub scene....Thursday should be fine this time of year, but it won't gear up until 9 or 10, I guess....the few blocks centered on Indian Plaza Rd, just E of Scottsdale Rd., are where the hip spots are, mixed in with the plain offices in the area....Axis/Radius, Myst, Pussycat Lounge and many others are ultra-trendy and a good bit of an ego scene....bring your $$ and attitude!!

if you're not into that scene, check out Tempe Marketplace, a new outdoor "mall" with free live music, sometimes, and lots of people-watching....cool spot....no 'tude here, but fun and easy....

other places exist that are fun...others may contribute

a convenient place to get desert scenes before sunset is Papago Park....drive Galvin Pkwy thru the area and stop for pictures wherever legal....walk off into the desert and find your favorite scene....sunset should give some nice sun angles....other areas to park at, including easy-to-get-to McDowell Rd as it passes thru the buttes (small parking area on S side of road)....hike on trails from there for a picture....

where are you going to be in town??....restaurant recs may depend on that

It's apparently attached to the airport; Phoenix Sky Harbor Int...Which is pretty close to 52nd St

OK...if you're at Sky Harbor during the day, it'll be very quick to get over to Papago Park for some desert hiking and photo ops before sunset....only a couple miles away....check a map...several parking choices

PGP = Phoenix Greyhound Park??....near the airport, but it closed last month - end of a legend

Check out the Comedy Spot in Scottsdale or the Improv in Tempe on Thursday nights. A lot of fun.
