So I'm from Southern California, I live in Mesa. My mom was just telling me how she woke up to fog this morning. My question is: Has there ever been fog in this area? It seems unlikely to me, yes I know it's a random question, but just thought I'd ask anyway.

I'm talking real actual fog. Not inversion or smog. Maybe some of you who have lived here your entire lives will know.

Thanks

Yes. Fairly often in a wetter winter. It is found mostly in the lower areas just like anywhere and that is near the river and cooler spots on the fringes in the fields that stay wet after a rain and don't dry out like the paved areas do. I run into very dense fog frequently after a rain coming from Estrella and going along by PIR. Visibility can be near zero in the part going over the Gila River.

Sky harbor has been closed for fog before; not very often, though.

nothing like the "mother's milk" fog of the Central Valley.

I've been here for 2 winters now, still never seen proper fog in my neck of the woods. But definitely looking forward to it

Southern Cali may not have 4 seasons per say, but in June we get "June Gloom" where it is foggy almost every morning, and I just love it

So ya, kind of a random question, but thought I would ask how common fog is in the Phoenix area

Thanks for the answers.

Yes, often. Infact whenever it rains here during the winter time you'll see fog somewhere. Usually in the surronding mountain tops. So you'll see it quite often actually.

I've even seen snow in downtown Phoenix, although it was about 18 years ago. It dusted my shoulders and melted before it hit the ground. There were large puffs of cloud like fog rolling about the streets too, very neat. Never seen it again lol

Yes, we do get fog occasionally, after wet winter storms... usually in the lower areas, in the farm fields. I've seen it on the Salt River reservation, down in the southeast Valley, and other areas.
