Default Apartment living at Southern & McClintock (Eastridge) or River Run Condos on 1st Street near Hardy

I'm being offered an incredible deal at Eastridge, one of the highest rated apartment communities in Tempe. I have met mgmt and so far so good. Apartments appliances are dated and there are no washer/dryers in units. Also the community seems quiet and free of college party scene and it seems to be a real "community" of mature people. Walking distance to Sunflower Market, Walgreens, dry cleaners...

Also I've just been offered a furnished condo on 1st near Hardy. Seemingly really nice owner, small 27 unit complex, walking distance to the lake. (I'm so thrilled about that for walking/biking.) But it's far from services. Also the airport noise is heavy. But I loooove the kitchen, the granite, the hardwood floors, and it's furnished and has w/d. It's about 200$ more than the other apartment. Everything is new!

I'm still new on the ground, learning my way around here. The distance from school is not an issue unless there's something I should know about traffic/safey by bike/scooter to Apache and Rural. Which deal would you go with? I know it's all about what's important to me, but help me with things I might be missing/unaware of as a newbie out here. Thanks!!!

Southern and McClintock is a nice older est area I shop @ that Bashas once a week. Its neat the High School and they bus kids in from South Phoenix there, but other then that its really nice area. I grew up near 5th St and Hardy there are little quadplexs there that are over run with illegals and kinda run down, Plus, a lot of College kids. The only plus is its near Townlake and Downtown Tempe. Free Orbits runs thru the neighborhoods

Yes I love the Southern/McC area for the services. No problem w/the school kids.

The condos on 1st are really lovely, the rental I'm considering included. Yes I did see the run down areas blocks away and forgot to mention that in my posting, and was concerned. I like the idea of being downtown and by the water but wonder if it's worth 200$ and a little feeling of "isolation". How far is it to Target or Safeway from there, and is it accessible easily by bike or scooter? I guess easy by Orbit.

Thank you. Glad you answered.

thats anotherthing about that area of Tempe. There are not grocery stores or Targets/Walmarts around there. For grocery stores you have a Safeway @ Broadway and Rural. A fry's @ Mill and Southern & Rural and Southern. Walmart is @ Rural and Southern. Target @ Baseline and McClintock. Then of course the stores @ Southern & McClintock. Don't forget Tempe Marketplace @ Rio Salado & McClintock

Thanks for that. Something to consider more. But some good restaurants over there---Ethiopian, Szechuan, Italian.

I haven't seen much in the way of indy restaurants around Southern, and haven't at all explored from Southern to Rural. Any interesting eats around there?

Oh only if I ate hot dogs!

But yes I've heard good things about Golds, and Mongolian Grill sounds
good. I'm happiest about Sunflower Market@

You've been most helpful. If you think of anything else...

We used to live two miles south of the apartment you're considering and really loved the location. We still go back to eat at Sweet Tomatoes and the restaurant on the water at The Lakes.
Shopping was very close, easy access to 60 and 101.
You should check out Kiwanis Lake and the canal path for bike riding.

Yes it is nothing like Tempe Town Lake, but so what we love it there. it is a Huge park we go there twice a week and run the dog around the lake. Right now they are making some renovation, but we still run the lake. There are Ramada around the lake. They stock the lake so there is a lot of fishing around there. We go and feed the Ducks and geese(also the stray crane). Kids playgrounds, basketball courts, soccer fields, tennis courts, and don't forget the wave pool. Awesome place. You can rent a paddle boat and go around the Lake. Its starrs @ Baseline and Mill and goes all the way to Guadalupe.

They are also building a path that goes from the AZ Mills Mall all the way to Gilbert 18 miles long. I run the dog down the path and we are already starting to see a lot of people running and biking down the path and it isnt even finished yet.
