I am a new yorker looking to relocate to az. in about 10 years. Looking to purchase now while its a buyers market and slowly ease myself into retirement. After doing some sightseeing with a friend who lives in az. I came across apache junction. I fell in love with the valley and all the scenery surrounding the area. It seems like a place my wife and would like to live. I am looking for a place that's more rural with a little bit of land .Not acres and acres and also not cookie cutter type communities. This area seems to be what I'm looking for but I also know sometimes an area can be deceiveing if only there for short time. I've seen other posts here refer this area as "rednecks, hicks". and many other negative posts.Like I said I this place seems to meet many of the things I'm looking for...rural but not to far from major cities, affordable, spactacular scenery, near lakes oh and did I mention NO winter. I absolutely love the heat so thats not a problem. So I'm looking for some feedback on this area or others for my future active retirement.

If you want a "little bit of land" you are llikely getting into the outskirts of AJ, on the Pinal County side. Years ago, there were some strange people in those areas (survivalists with weapon stashes and other sorts of oddballs) I really don't know if that's still the case. I'd do some more detailed looking around, maybe find a local realtor to help you, and see what you can find.

I moved out of state, and want to come back to AJ. I love that town.

AJ is a good choice. What's wrong with being a survivor or having a stash?

By outskirts do you mean Gold Canyon or Gold Camp. Do you know of any other areas that seem to be what I'm looking for. I thought AJ was in Pinal County. It seems like GCanyon is more of a golfing community as there is a golf course there. Not looking for that.
