Mine is 62 out of 100 — Somewhat Walkable, but I can't complain because both my girlfriend and I live about 2 blocks from work and walk there every day. The only place we have to drive to on a regular basis is the supermarket once a week or so, but otherwise we walk to most restaurants, bars and other entertainment.

Walkscore for W. Portland Ave in the Western Edge of downtown Phoenix is 80 out of 100 or "Very Walkable." 10 points shy of the highest category of 90 or above as a "walker's paradise."

Walk Score - Helping homebuyers, renters, and real estate agents find houses and apartments in great neighborhoods.

I was reading through Walk Score's notes and since the "transit data" hasn't been updated for Phoenix the information bar in the upper right hand corner reads "no transit data"; therefore, "the walk score is significantly reduced." If that is the case, I'd expect that when data is available and updated this area of Phoenix will be a "walker's paradise."

I signed up on walk score to "petition" the transit agencies in metro Phoenix to support "open transit data" so that Walk Score can evaluate and include the transit apps in their ratings.

29 out of 100: Car dependent

I do live .75 miles from two grocery stores, several restaurants, including Chinese, Sushi, Italian, Pizza, Subway, McDonalds, Long John Silvers...two dry cleaners, two nail places, two haircut places, a salon and a UPS store.

Not too...the score should be higher although .75 miles is a bit of a walk.

Mine is 18 (better than I thought it would be). I can walk my dog, that's about it.

I'm a 68. About 400 meters W of 19th Ave. and Northern. The light rail would boost that significantly, but I won't hold my breath. My place in Rio Rico was a zero. I use walkscore as a tool, but it doesn't count super busy streets (very dangerous), and it doesn't account for areas with lots of senior drivers, who have no peripheral vision.

Yeah it's not perfect. A place I used to live at had a decent walk score but it was because I was near a big strip mall and a busy intersection with a few gas stations and CVS's. I don't really consider it a walkable neighborhood when I have to cross a really busy suburban street to get to a strip mall where I then have to traverse a 1000 acre parking lot before I'm at the stores.

I suppose a place next to a mosque and an adult bookstore across the street from a junkie park would get about a 90.

Why do they call them "adult bookstores" and not just porn shops? Can you buy books there like Madonna's Sex or something? Sounds ridiculous...

Walk Score - Helping homebuyers, renters, and real estate agents find houses and apartments in great neighborhoods.
this was my apartment in Berkeley--a 95. The first bar was Gay, and someone was waving a gun at the owner of the second, late one evening.
Looks like they did factor in transit, there.

They did; I think central Phoenix would get a similar or higher score if they factored in transit here. We have more options and more FREE options compared to Berkeley; like the free downtown DASH circulator bus service, three light rail stops within 0.48 miles of Roosevelt (Berkeley only has the Ashby BART at 0.43 miles)...interesting stuff...
