Hello!
I've been to Phoenix multiple times and I love the area. I am thinking about relocating from Minneapolis, MN and am thinking about going to Arizona.

A few questions, first: What is the job market like down there? I have about 3 years of event planning, entertainment marketing experience. Are there any advertising agencies or marketing specialists in the area that I could connect with?

What area of town would you recommend I look into living? I'm 26/single/male...? I am a professional during the work-week but would like to go out and meet friends on the weekends.

Other hobbies about me:
I'm a marathon runner and a bass guitar player. I'd like to be somewhere close for me to train and somewhere close with a lot of live music.

Thanks for your help!

Hmmm, Phoenix is not a good live music town. Tempe sounds like it might be a good place for you to live for someone your age-lots of bars, clubs and things to do near ASU and close to Scottsdale as well. The economy here is about the same as everywhere else-not good. If you have a good job, you might want to stay put until the economy gets better. Look at indeed.com and ad2phoenix.com for jobs.

Phoenix is great for social life and fun. If you like being active outdoors make sure you sample the summer temperatures before moving here. A marathon would be pretty tough from May - October.

Downtown Scottsdale (or near downtown Scottsdale), Tempe near Tempe Town Lake or Papago Park will likely fit you the best. Decent nightlife, nice parks to run, lots of people with your profile. I like Scottsdale, a little more sophisticated, less students.

Also the area near north around Northern Ave and 16th St, near Dreamy Draw Park could be a good fit. Easy access to airport, downtown, etc.

The PF Chang's Rock & Roll Marathon in January is pretty cool.

As for the job market... bad, just like everywhere else, if not worse.

As for where to live... I agree that Tempe or Scottsdale would be a good choice. You might like some of the central PHoenix areas as well. There has been a big revitalization in the past several years of the neighborhoods surrounding downtown.

Job market is tough

Live music scene isn't really good, but not completely non-existant ...... we do get all the touring acts though

A lot of running options - tons of 5ks, 10ks, etc .... along with at least 2 marathons each year (rock and roll and IMS West Valley) and Pat's Run which is a great time

Not to bash PHX at all (it's my favorite city), but given your area of work expertise, have you considered looking at Dallas or Austin?

job market: very bad and getting worse

culture: minimal for its size

You can do your 'thang' anywhere in the country

Austin came to mind as a recommendation for you too (born and lived in Texas for 36 years). If I were single and in my mid 20s, Austin is the first place I'd have on my list to check out.

Between South by Southwest, the State government, and the University of Texas, the hospitality business should continue to thrive there.

BTW, I like your user name. I saw Yo-yo Ma at Bass Hall in Fort Worth several years ago, amazing cello player.
