Hey everyone,
My partner and I are contemplating moving to Arizona from Perth Australia. She is a chef and I am a police officer. We have heard numerous stories about employment over there at the moment that it isn't very good. Could anyone advise if the hospitality industry is in a bad state like other professions or would it be worth the move. We also have a memorabilia online business that we will continue to do in Arizona...is that a worthwhile business in the states?
thanks for any help

Even with the slowdown in the economy, the hospitality industry is still pretty viable. A good chef should have no trouble finding work.

Law enforcement might be another issue. Most of the governments here are cutting back big time. You might be able to find something in private security or consulting, but I think there are going to be a lot of former police and fire vying for those jobs.

Eesh- I don't know... this area was hit harder than most because we experienced such a big boom in real estate a short time ago. The number of subsequent foreclosures is higher than many other areas thereby hitting the economy quite hard.

I would hate to discourage you, but I wouldn't dream of moving here without a job lined up or a substantial chunk of money to live off of for several months while job hunting.
