I am in Phoenix this week and I noticed a lot of people have let the orange and yellow flowers take over their yards, almost looks like a mini field of flowers.

Are these weeds? I don't remember seeing these last year.

More than likely they are African Daises. They bloom this time of year for about 3 months, then re-seed themselves for the next season.
Google African Daisies and you'll find all kinds of info on them.

yes, they are probably African Daisies.....

they are definitely NOT weeds and look great this time of year....I'm jealous of yards with them.....homeowners take time to put them in, originally as seeds, and the results are awesome....come back year after year....they need some water, though

African Daisy's or California or AZ Poppies (the CA poppies are orange, the AZ are yellow)
African Daisy's as the name suggests, are native to south Africa, but they have naturalized here. The AZ poppy is a native wildflower, as is the CA poppy. If you let them go to seed you will have them every year that rainfall is sufficient.

Weird, I just don't remember seeing the orange ones. I noticed they're springing up like weeds along sidewalks and in places other than yards which is why I wondered if they're are infact weeds, but good to know they're just wildflowers.

Sounds like CA poppies. I noticed patches of yellow in the distance in the Estrellas today. I'll have to hike out there to check it out. CA poppies are my favorite spring wild flower.

Yeah, I've been seeing the poppies. If you want to see an example look at the empty gas station lot at the NW corner of I-17 & Camelback. Weeds? Flowers? One persons weeds are anothers flowers.

Speaking of which the flowers are starting to bloom in the Phx Mtn parks. Does anybody have a name for this one? This was in the Dreamy Draw area a couple of weeks ago.
