You're right about that...there are definitely a TON of rich ex-Northerner retirees in Scottsdale. A lot are from Chicago. That may explain all the nice cars in and around Scottsdale area...the rich snowbirds.

You can count my FIL and his neighbor as 2 of em. One drives a Vette Z06, my FIL has a '23 T-bucket with a Chevelle 396 ci in it, a Crossfire SRT-6, and an H3.

None of those vehicles are particularly exotic or rare.

I WOULD compare Phoenix/Scottsdale to Los Angeles as far as high-end, exotic vehicles. Los Angeles will obviously have more but the L.A. Metro area is around 18 million people versus Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale at around 4.5 million.

Car culture is huge in Phoenix, we have the numerous classic car auctions (RM, Barrett Jackson, etc etc) as well as groups of enthusiasts that meet up for rides. Corvette club is huge down here, I rode with them a few times and they're a great bunch of guys! Phoenix would definitely be on the list of best cities for a car enthusiast.

I've lived in/ been to (for extended periods of time) a lot of different places... LA, Miami, SW FL, CT, MA, NY, DC... Of all of them, LA will obviously have the largest car scene just due to the population alone, but the ratio of modified cars to stock cars is MUCH lower than it is in phx.

If you want to see mormonism and take a trip back to the 50's, take a trip over to Gilbert. Its a very pretty area.

I never said they were exotic. If you wanted that, I could have mentioned the 2 previous Ferraris my FIL has owned, but sold here in IL before he moved to AZ. His father, who lives in Carefree, has owned several Ferraris, too, and in fact still has one I believe.

The car culture in PHX is decent, dont get me wrong, but places like LA, Miami, even Chicagoland, outshine it. Seeing a prep in a Lambo doesnt constitute much car culture, IMO. As stated earlier, most Phoenicians are from elsewhere, they just brought their money and toys with them. So if you think its great to see all the exotics around, think about where they came from.

The caliber of cars in LA/SoCal in general, is much higher, and much more dense (obviously) than PHX. Take a visit to the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance sometime. Amazing. Cars that youll never see at the cheesy, overrated Barrett-Jackson auction.

And if you want Vette clubs, come to IL. Theyre all over the place, especially when the world's largest Corvette show (Bloomington Gold) comes here every summer.

Oh, nice status update, BTW.

Obviously you have not ever been to some of the private garages in the Scottsdale area, the caliber of cars IS as high if not higher than Los Angeles or Miami. Chicago doesn't ever COMPARE to Phoenix when it comes to exotic vehicles as you can only drive them during 1/4 of the year anyway! There are only a few select areas of Los Angeles that you'll see very high-end vehicles unlike in Phoenix where they are found in every city of the Valley.

Pebble Beach is only once a year as is Barrett-Jackson and it's not even that great. If you want a REAL car show go to the Woodward Dream Cruise; now THAT'S a car show!

I agree and Scottsdale is one of the five best car cities in the world, IMO.
