Default Relocating to Phoenix

Hi All,

I will be visiting Phoenix within the next four months on a temp basis. I am a single female looking to rent a one bedroom apartment in safe environment in a community with low crime rates. I know crime can occur anywhere, however I would like advice on the no- go areas and the best places to live if you are a young single female. I am planning on renting an apartment in Arcadia Cove (2252 N 4th St. 85008) would this area be considered safer than most?

I also have questions regarding the cost of utilities for a small one bedroom apartment. I currently live in London and would like to start budgeting and planning for my stay in Phoenix, If anyone would be so kind to offer advice for my move it would be very much appreciated.

EDIT:
If you'll be here for business, I'd suggest finding a location that is near where you will be working. Consult with the people with whom you will be working to see if they can make any claims about the safety of the area, as they likely spend a decent amount of time in the area. You might also see if any of them drive in from elsewhere and would be willing to carpool with you during your stay, allowing you greater flexibility.

Just as in London, you can pretty much go anywhere in the valley safely, although your level of awareness of your surroundings might need to be increased in some of the lesser desirable parts of town. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Thanks for the advice, I will be in Phoenix to develop a business as opposed to working. I've read previous posts on this topic and the responses have been a little bit disturbing. Would Scottsdale be a better look?

Scottsdale, particularly to the north, would be better, sure. I suspect, given the higher income levels predominant in that city, the environment for business development would be preferable as well.

You might want to think about using google maps & bing maps to view the area of the address. It will give you a little picture for yourself of the area. I would consider the area just as safe (more or less) as most others in the Phoenix area. If you don’t have a car or drive it’s about three blocks from the bus and light-rail service for transportation. It’s close to the main business area of Phoenix that being in the main down town location as well along the Central Ave business corridor.
