Me growing up in the valley would say so. Especially around the areas I was raised. Like any large city I know that some communities may differ from others, but I specifically want to know if Phoenix is anywhere on top of the Most Dangerous City list ? Phoenix is well known as the kidnapping capital of the world (Human Trafficking) and I would also say a major drug hub because of the location the city is in, only hours away from Mexico, California, and Texas. Also how would you compare Phoenix to other large cities such as Houston and Chicago ? and what areas are more ghetto in PHX then others?

The news, like what you are explaining, makes Phoenix look ghetto. I wasn't here in the 90's when it was supposedly bad, but right now I don't think it is ghetto. I felt less safe in Sacramento than I do here on the east side. We supposedly lived on the good side and people constantly had their cars broken into or stolen eventually. Never had home invasions, thanks god, but constant violence from the general populous in that city. A gang member in greenhaven thought it would be funny to through a grenade into a police officers house and blew the roof sideways.

You think meth is a problem here, go visit Sacramento and you will see how bad it really is.

For someone that is/was leaving for NY in a week or so, I would think you could use Google to your benefit to get your answers rather than a thread like this, or just a search on CD...Oh and best of luck in your move.

Just like any large city, I think there are nice areas and "ghettO" areas of phoenix, as the OP put it.

No way! There is nothing in Phoenix that even remotely approaches the ghettos of eastern cities or even Houston for that matter. Impoverished areas, higher crime, new "immigrants" sure, even public housing - but no block after block of crumbling tenements filled with people with no future and no hope where it is dangerous to venture day or night. In fact, our "ghettos" would pretty much be "working class neighborhoods" in many eastern cities.

Maybe I was just curious to hear other peoples responses.

I would tend to disagree. I took a drive through Guadalupe as well as a neighborhood south of Downtown and they both looked like absolute dumps. It was amazing how people can actually continue to live like that...

I have lived here 2.5 years and have yet to see an area where I felt scared, if they exist, I don't know where they are. In my old town, you could be near a million dollar home and one block away was a serious ghetto like I have yet to see in this town.

Guadalupe is a Yaqui Indian Reservation/community. It is poor, but probably better than the part of Mexico where they from. If you really think the rundown areas of PHX are as rough as the urban ghettos of Chicago, NY, St. Louis, LA, etc you are sorely mistaken.
