Sounds like you'll see some great sights, and get some sleep, too. Have fun!

Personally, on your schedule, I'd skip Jerome. To us it was just a tiny touristy town. Not much to do on a short time limit. You have about a 45+ minute drive from Sedona to Jerome and appx 4+ hour drive from Jerome back through Sedona and up 89A to the Grand Canyon. This is not a freeway speed drive.
Go from Sedona up to the Grand Canyon and spend that extra time at the Canyon. There are too many beautiful sights and areas to visit at the Canyon.
If you ever come back to AZ and want to see Jerome, that would be a nice side trip along with taking the very popular Scenic train ride out of Cottonwood which is on the way to Jerome. This Jerome-Cottonwood trip would take all day to catch just the minimum sightseeing adventure.

Ha ha observer53---we will get our rest! Though I'd love to happen upon some live music one night.

nitram, thanks for your response. I didn't realize that Jerome was that much out of the way. I'll just focus on enjoying whatever we happen upon in between Sedona and Grand Canyon.
