Default Phoenix for New Year

I know it's a ways off, but a friend is asking me to meet in Phoenix on 12/30. She will be leaving that night on a year-long trip. Is it worth it stay on and see the New Year in? Could I find something to attend solo that would be fun? I'm not at all uneasy about going out alone.

I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

The block party in Downtown Tempe is the biggest New Year's Eve event in the Phoenix area. There are always live bands, usually well known, but I don't think the headliners have announced yet for the 2007/2008 party.

That sounds fun . . . if all goes well, and I've relocated in time, I'll definitely check out Tempe on New Year's Eve. Thanks.

Thanks for the response silverbear, that could be a winner! Any idea of a place to stay . . . something that's not going to set me back too much? I realize it's NYE, so convenience is probably more a consideration than price. Thanks!

There are two hotels right in the heart of Downtown Tempe and another just on the other side of the ASU campus. Those would allow you to walk to the festivities and not worry about driving to the event. Even if you are a teetotaler, I wouldn't want to be on the road given the tendency of others to overdo it on NYE. I would suggest booking ASAP if you intend to do this. With the Fiesta Bowl, a lot of hotels may already be filling up.

Mindreader! I just got off the phone with a friend of a friend of the friend I'm meeting in Phoenix and he mentioned the Fiesta Inn. He also suggested I look into other events since I'm not a football person (there are how many people on each team????) So, now I'm going to concentrate on less rowdy activites in Phoenix. Any suggestions of things that don't require heels and hooha? I could always just catch a plane back home in time for celebrations here.

I love the Fiesta Inn. When we first moved to Az, our friends used to come and visit us and stay at the Fiesta Inn. They loved it. They have an awesome pool area and all the rooms are suites and at that time it was cheap like 69.00 to 100.00 a night. Hmmm Scottsdale usually has a block party, maybe not as rowdy as the Tempe party.

As you can see -there is not much to do in Phoenix at all for New Years Eve. For years we have gone Vegas for it.

From a female standpoint here, not exactly sure how much I would be willing to go out alone on NYE around here (drunk or stone sober)- I'd be more concerned which serial rapist is now once again on the loose (um, like now...again). Safety in numbers and my advice for going out around here and "getting lost in a crowd" - I would not personally do it alone. I'd rather sit in a hotel room with my computer, multi-colored metallic 2008 hat, a pizza and blow my horn at Dick Clark knowing that in the morning I would not be found face down in the desert. Not paranoia - I doubt anyone here who knows what really goes on around the Valley would even advise their own daughter or female friend to go out alone around here on New Years Eve. If you do, have fun and be very careful.

Had an afterthought here...if you are going to spend time in Phoenix for NYE - maybe you could meet up with another female (or two) from this forum - you both could talk on the phone and plan a fun night for that evening. I am sure not every female here will have plans and someone will be willing to go. Except me, I can't, hubs and I will be in Vegas.
