well it looks like i may accept a contract in buckeye for an elementary music teaching position. it is a brand new school, only 1 year old and it sounds like a great opportunity. i am waiting for the contract to come in before i decide. well i would be going on blind faith as far as what everything looks like. i just don't have the money to fly out to phoenix to look at it before i move, and the schools aren't willing to pay to fly me out. though this school i may sign with will pay some money towards relocation which is great!
are there any other teachers that have already signed contracts and moving out to phoenix area or contemplating a move going out on blind faith? what schools and areas are you all looking at? i will be moving from the midwest, cleveland area to phoenix. i was born and raised in mississippi so i do know a bit about the heat, although of course it doesn't get as hot as phoenix. i just want to say good luck to all the families moving. i have been on here reading the pros and cons of living in phoenix. someday soon i may count myself as another person living in the area! |

I started my education career on blind faith in AZ. You can always start at Buckeye and move on to greener grass as there will always be positions open in your area of instruction. Buckeye is dealing with tremendous growth which tends to strain public services. I think it's a good choice even though you're going on blind faith. There are better places to be had, but there are many more poor choices. Consider it a small victory and get ready for the 1st day you have to report. You won't get many better offers since you are moving from out of state. Maybe once you become established you can look around.

hey nice nice, thanks!
my mom has a friend who just bought a house out in buckeye, so when/if i go out there she is going to help me out. i know a couple of other people in the phoenix metro area so i will know a few people there. i guess i will be one of the teachers that will set the bar for the school. let's hope i do it some justice! ![]() |

just moved here from Michigan to take a job teaching second grade. i moved here early so that i could get the adjustment process out of the way prior to school starting. i got offered a job in buckeye but the salary was quite a bit lower (around $30 or $31K a year i think) than the other offers that i had. i signed a contract for $35K plus a $1K relocation bonus in a district that reminds me a lot of the district that i grew up in. i've been here a month and i really like it thus far. it's starting to get a little warm, but it's not bad. the lack of humidity is awesome. i didn't really know anyone out here when i moved. i still only know a few people, but i'm sure that once school starts that'll pick up. it's been a big change but i'm really enjoying the challenge and the newness of it. my only regret is that i waited a year after graduating, to move out here. i can't see myself moving back to Michigan, after being here for 5 weeks. it's just so nice! good luck!

oh i was saying thank you for your input. but the comment i made about the midwest someday in the future needing teachers again could happen with the gradual retiring of teachers.

Accepted a teaching job in Gilbert. I was able to get down to check out the school before making my decision but will be going into an apartment blind.
Nice that they offered you a moving bonus (or was that teacherguy). I asked Gilbert and so did another girl i know going and they said no. How do they expect first year teachers to have any $ to make such a move. Any little thing would help ! I was surprised because I hear many others getting such a bonus. |
