You should do a search for FH's on here as I know it's been covered. I do remember people talking about drug problems and esp. in the schools. But I could not tell you from experience if it's all true.

Thank you all for the information and comments. We have added CaveCreek and CareFree to our list to investigate. Thanks again.

There is a high rate of meth users in FH, be ready.

I live in Fountain Hills in a nice sub division and I am here to tell you there are more snobs than not. One lady walking her dog told me she has lived in our little sub division here for a year and a half and we are the first people to speak to her. How awful. When you go to the stores, people are rude, they think that they are better than you, when you are shopping they run their carts into your legs and don't bother with excuse me, I'm sorry. The high school is nice, my son likes it there, but there is their share of drugs, drinking and weirdness. You have to deal with coyotes something terrible here. If you have dogs or cats you must watch them like a hawk and not leave them unattended outside. Same goes for the big owls and hawks swooping down on the little dogs/cats. Being a nurse working 12 hour shifts, I don't see much of the neighbors, by the time I get home from work I just want to eat, bathe, talk to my son and go to bed. Fountain Hills is nice, but really take a look around, the town is changing.

Thanks Shadow91. Drug issue in FH really discourages us from moving forward. But we're still researching
. If there're drug dealers hanging around in the open public place (FH Park) in this so called 'affluent' community, I think my husband and I just underestimated the drug problem in AZ in general.Quote:

meth is the drug of choice here in AZ. I am a nurse and moving here from IL got my first taste of the drug problem. I had never seen anyone on meth before until moving here. My son says there are tons of drugs in the school. One kid sits in class telling everyone he is going to kill his father, another states he is the grandson of a mafia person (this is true) and is telling kids for a "price" he can get them what they want. The school is aware of it but can't seem to stop it. I haven't been down to the fountain so I can't speak for that. For the most part it is quiet here, except for the coyotes yipping all night long. I call FH the "killing fields." It truly is the desert here. My son comes home from school telling me he is going to be driving in a few months and he wants cars like the other kids, hummers, beamers, lotus's, etc. I can't afford to buy him something like that. There is also alot of favoritism in the sports programs here. But like I said in my previous post, all I do is work and come home, my son loves it here. Arizona has grown so big that no matter where you go, you are going to run into something. I researched on the internet before moving here and was in for the shock of my life after relocating. Nothing on the internet could have prepared me for this lifestyle.

From my research CareFree is more retirees than CaveCreek and not as family oriented.

FYI, from what I find in my area, the wealthier the community, the less fighting and bad grades in schools and the more drugs and drinking. It is like - pick your poison. I would suggest calling the local police in Fountain Hills for more information on the crime statistics in the area.

I live in Fountain Hills. if you have any questions, feel free to contact me. There is a lot of money here in FH's - and like Scottsdale, more money equals more drugs. My family has been in FH's since 1979 - I have yet to see anyone sitting around at Fountain Park doing drugs. You see people walking their dogs around the fountain at night and jogging. It's safe - sometimes I will jog around the fountain at night - and I am still here, see?
It's a very fitness oriented town. Homeless people hanging around? Ah, no - not here in this pristine town. Someone above mentioned snobs - FH's does have a rep for this and the town does have it's fair share...but there are many more relaxed and friendly people that outnumber them. Again, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have, will be happy to help answer what you want to know. |
