So the theme for the January 2014 Theme Contest is Determination as described above.

Lets begin posting!

Default Team Roping Rodeo

Horsemen, horses and bull - all are determined for different reasons. For me the blur enhances this shot at a recent rodeo.

Default Castillo De San Marcos

St Augustine, FL. One of the oldest buildings built in the US - 1672. The British were determined to take the fort, but they found that their cannon balls just bounced off or stuck in the porous coquina rock that the fort is constructed of.

Default Guangzhou Workers

I just moved to Guangzhou, China, for work.

On the way to the metro/subway, I pass by a Bank of China branch. At the end of the workday, the women who are tellers, receptionists, etc come outside and scrub down the sidewalk. This happens just as rush hour is starting. The thing I find amazing is how seriously they all take it... they scrub that dingy, tiled sidewalk to oblivion, the older ones taking the matter very seriously, barking down admonishments of slowness and encouragement of spirit to the younger ones, who seem to take the whole affair in a lighthearted way... they laugh, encourage, or jokingly mock one another as indifferent commuters step through their work.

To this end, the woman who's near the middle, facing the camera, was eyeballing me with determination as I snapped the picture. The younger one, second to the right, was smirking at me. You can see if you zoom in.

Default Hindu Mandir

It took a lot of work and determination to create this Hindu Mandir - it is a masterpiece of intricate design and workmanship, replete with its 5 towering white pinnacles, 12 smooth domes and glittering 136 marble pillars. Over 33,000 pieces of Italian marble and Turkish limestone were hand-carved by skilled craftsmen and assembled by volunteers in just 16 months.
The 25,620 sq ft (2,380 m2) mandir is constructed entirely of marble from Italy and limestone from Turkey. There is no iron or steel anywhere in the structure.
